My hands were completely frozen by the time Caspian eventually unlocked the door.
He opened the door and his eyes roamed over my body, probably mentally criticising my appearance. I was wearing a mustard-yellow long sleeve shirt with a black leather jacket over it and a skinny jean with my white All-Stars. Personally, I didn't think I looked too bad.
He allowed me inside and I blew onto my hands to warm them up, but even my breath was icy cold.
"Cold?" He asked after he closed the door and faced me.
"A bit. So much for the temperature rising today." My teeth cluttered as I spoke.
"Give me your hands." He demanded softly. I stretched out my hand, but pulled it back quickly, only realising then what he had asked me to do.
"What?"
"Are you cold or not?" He glared at me and extended his hands.
I reluctantly placed mine in his and my hands instantly began to defrost at his body temprature. He closed my hands in his and blew onto them with his abnormally warm breath and rubbed them together. After he repeated the process a few times my hands were able to move again.
"Better?" He released my hands.
"Yeah."
I couldn't find the right words to thank him. I could feel the weight of his gaze. I cleared my throat and he pulled away his eyes before we headed to the kitchen. I almost got knocked over by a pair of arms.
"Rebecca, it's so good to see you. When Caspian told me you were coming over, I almost jumped out of my skin!"
The girl pulled away to reveal Caspian's older sister. She was even more beautiful than I could remember. Her skin glowed and she looked fully rested. I rubbed my arm nervously. Last time I saw her was with their mother's funeral and that was nearly three years ago.
"It's good to see you too, Celeste. It feels great to be back." I uttered a reply.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, but I have to go and take care of some urgent stuff at work. Sorry I have to leave so soon." She said to me, her eyes swimming with regret.
"No, it's fine." I reassured her.

**********

"What exactly are we searching for?" Caspian asked as he typed random stuff into Google.
"The French history and it's origin. " I said and leaned over his chair to look at what he was typing.
I couldn't help but acknowledge how fast his fingertips glided across the keyboard, but also how his body stiffened as I looked over his shoulder at the screen. He hit the 'enter' button and a whole website of the French History and more appeared on the screen. My excitement bubbled up inside of me.
"Scoot up." I chased him away from the chair so that I could scroll through and collect what we needed.
"Just like that?" He asked irritated, but the amusement in his voice was crystal clear.
I ignored his comments and cursing as he stood up and left me alone in the office to gather the information for the project. I printed the pages and stacked them neatly into a file before I rose from the chair. I tripped and fell, but a pair of strong arms grabbed hold of me, before I could hit the surface of the wooden floor, and hoisted me up.
"Still as clumsy as always." Caspian smirked at me. He released my arm and backed up.
"Says the one who lost to a girl. Remember that time when we rode the motorcycle and I won, because you hit a puddle?" I laughed.
He parted his lips several times, but closed it again. He looked like a fish out of water. It felt good that I had him speechless.
"I bet I could do it again." I joked, but regretted what I said the moment it stumbled out of my lips.
I knew I had gone too far and he was going to kill me, physically. I placed the file on the cabinet and ran for my life. The only place I would be safe was outside. There might not be anywhere to hide, but there was more than enough space for me to run around in circles and tire him out before he got to me.
It was windy outside and I got chilled to the very core of my bones. The wind prickled my face and left it cold and red. I stopped for a minute and regained my breath. A pair of arms closed around my waist.
"I always was faster than you, Becca." Caspian whispered into my ear.
My heart stopped when he called me by my nickname. It wasn't until he picked me up and walked with me to the pool that my heart began beating again. He stopped right in front of the pool and I knew what was coming for me.
"Don't you dare." I said coldly and my eyes dropped to the freezing pool water.
"Is that a challenge?" He asked arrogantly.
His arms tightened around my waist and I could feel the icy water as it engulfed me and stole my breath away. I came up from under the water and searched for Caspian. He broke the surface with his head of blonde hair as he came up for air.
"Asshole!" I splashed him continuously.
I felt my feet being tugged from under me and felt my head going under water. I slurped in a big gulp of pool water. I climbed out of the swimming pool and choked on the amount of water I inhaled. Caspian got himself out of the pool and he was at my side in an instant.
"Don't you dare scare me like that." He said after I stopped choking and breathed steadily again.
"Who's clever idea was it to pull me under the water?" I pushed him away and stood up.
