"Good morning darling," I say making some breakfast for all of us to enjoy.

"Good morning mommy," Charlotte answers yawning and rubbing her face.

"Good morning honey," my mom says as she enters the room.

"Good morning mom,"

"So I thought that for today I would take Charlotte to a water park and then spend the night there to give you a day off," my mom explained to me as she grabs a glass of water and apple juice for Charlotte.

"Oh mom you don't have to do that," I tell her flipping a pancake.

"I want to it's been a long time since I've seen her and I want to make memories with her and you deserve a day off,"

"I understand that and I appreciate you so much let me ask her what she thinks okay," I explain to her. I always ask Charlotte because I want her to be able to make her own decisions.

I grab some plates and ask Charlotte to set the table. And then I bring all of the food over to the table before taking a seat with my mom and Charlotte who are already sitting and talking.

"Charlotte," I say to her making her a plate of food and cutting up her pancakes.

"Yes mommy," she says drinking the apple juice Mimi gave to her.

"Mimi and I were talking about how would you like to go to a water park with Mimi and spend the night there with her too,"

"Really," Charlotte asks smiling widely.

"Yes, darling,"

"Okay, then yes," she says to my mom and me.

"Okay then it's settled you're going to have so much fun honey and thank you mom,"

"You're welcome," my mom answers.

"I'm so excited," Charlotte says with her mouth full of pancakes.

A few hours later:

"Okay you have everything right, a bathing suit," I ask Charlotte.

"Yes mommy," she tells me with her little backpack on her back.

"Okay then bye, Charlotte and mom I love you both,"

"Bye mommy I love you too," Charlotte says.

"Bye honey I love you too have a good night okay," she says kissing my cheek.

"Okay," I say kissing her cheek back.

I haven't had a day to myself in a long time, I mean don't get me wrong I love spending my time with Charlotte but sometimes it's overwhelming to be a single mother.

I do have to get groceries for my mom and us for the week we are staying here. I grab the car keys and head out the door. The hot air hits my body as I walk outside it's summertime here so it's very hot though and right now I'm wishing it was the autumn season. It's my favorite season so much that I almost named Charlotte, Autumn. On my drive to the grocery store that I used to go to all time the when I was in high school I play some music and the windows down. I park the car in a parking spot before reviewing the list I made before I left. I walk into the store with the list in my hand, wow really hasn't changed in here that's crazy.

It only takes about an hour and a half to get everything from my list and packed into my mother's car. Before I'm heading back to the house to enjoy my relaxing evening to watch some cheesy rom-com movies.

Back at home an hour after shopping:

As I'm sitting on the couch in front of the TV and the house is so quiet and I guess you could say I miss Charlotte's company. My mom called me about an hour ago stating that Charlotte was good and having a great time. I'm happy for her, for once life is okay and I'm so grateful for it but right now all I can think of is how ice cream sounds amazing. And of course, I didn't pick any up when I was at the store earlier.

There's a Walgreens down the street, so I think I'm going to go get myself some ice cream to eat when I'm watching my movies.

10 minutes later

As I'm walking through the Wallgreens looking for the frozen dessert aisle I can hear a group of men laughing throughout the store. There is a bar across the street so I'm guessing they came from there.

A group of boys comes stumbling in loudly. Emma can only hear them but can't see them. Whispers come from the boys before laughing.

I grabbed the ice cream I want, and I should probably get out of the store so my ice cream doesn't melt too much before I get to eat it. But as soon as I turn the corner I run right into something very hard, and the ice cream I was holding fell to the ground. I go down to pick everything up when the person that bumps into me starts helping me.

"I'm so sorry," I go to look at the person, and that's when I see him, making him stop breathing.

"Carter,"
