Monique
I sighed as I looked at the time. It was time for that meeting. The big bosses are back and I can only guess what they want to see me for. I was really looking forward to go home early this Friday. Ever since that disaster of meeting with HR I have not been doing what I normally do.
I'm tired of giving up all of my time for a company that obviously doesn't give a shit about me. My team refuses to do any work for me so what do they expect? For me to continue doing everything and stressing over deadlines? No. Not anymore. I refuse. There was a point in time where my life revolves around this place. But there's a future to think about and I can't keep doing this.
"You think they're gonna fire her?" I heard as I made my way towards the elevator.
"I hope so. She's a bitch and she caught something? This does not look good for the company." They stopped talking briefly when they saw me coming. I rolled my eyes and left them to continue their shit talking.
I got in the elevator and rode it up to the top floor. I don't even have clearance to be up here on the regular. So you know it's gotta be important for them to call me to heaven's gates so soon. The building is constructed in a way where the higher you go up the smaller the floors are to accommodate shorter upper staff. This floor is about a third of our floor but still about two times bigger than my house.
The assistant told me to wait in the office for the CEO and COO. No joke, I was sitting there for close to an hour before they showed up. I was pissed but tried hiding it.
"Sorry for the wait," the CEO, Josh Steedly, said taking a seat across from me. He's a decent man. Treats everyone well and welcomed me into the company. "Meeting ran long."
"You are on our time so I doubt it was much trouble," the COO, Natalie Cook, said. She's a bitch. She thinks she's better than everybody because of her title. She's also very territorial. She's been after the CEO since I first started at this company.
She's hated me ever since. Apparently, the CEO had a somewhat crush on me. He used to hang around the lower floors when I first started. Like always, I didn't believe it at first. But this time I was actually right. The CEO does that with everyone he hires for a hire manager's position to make sure we understand everything there is to understand. But she's convinced I was trying to seduce him when that's not the case. The dude is old enough to be my father for Christ Sake. I also had my suspicions that she's the reason so many rumors about me are floating around in the first place.
"Considering the day is over and I'm no longer getting paid for being here," I said smartly. "I'm actually on my time. It was a bit annoying to be sitting here for so long but I understand the pressures of being the boss." I smiled while she mugged me.
"Listen-"
"She's right," Mr. Steedly said. "It's technically her time. We should respect that. Again, I apologize." I nodded. "We called you here because of all the trouble we've been hearing. And to follow up. We got your request to remove your team members. Can you explain why?"
I sighed a bit. "Long story short? I let them get away with too much and was tired of giving up all of my time to finish their work on top of mine. I asked them to put more effort and even gotten stricter. They refuse to follow instruction and I'm honestly over it. I shouldn't have to beg anyone to do what they get paid for."
"So your solution is to fire an entire team of skilled and professional workers?" Natalie asked. "Jackson may have let things like this happen but we do NOT do that here. As the team manager it's your job to make sure things go smoothly. No wonder your team is on a strike."
