Zyshonne

I sat in the living room with Mo's cousin watching the game. Or I was. We were too busy laughing and cracking jokes to really pay attention to it. I was a bit cautious of meeting them simply because of Zay and Taylor. Zay is slowly getting into my good graces while Taylor just dropped off the face of the Earth. After that messy divorce and losing custody of her kids she hasn't really talked to anyone. Except her mom letting her know she's alive. Once Isaiah told her the truth about their dad and how he was trying to work things out with Mo she didn't want to hear it and stopped talking to him.

I don't think he even really liked her to be honest. But he does care since he keeps asking his mom about her I guess. He was mad at her too but I guess he got over it.

Luckily, so far Mo's other family seems cool. They all seem to genuinely like her despite the fact they don't know her at all. "Fuck you, pussy ass church boy," Bryson said to AJ. They looked ready to go for blows.

"I may be a church boy but I can still fuck you up. Don't forget that. Bitch."

"Then what's up nigga?" Bryson hopped up looking ready to fight.

"Should we stop this?" I asked Demetrius who was sitting casually in his seat just watching.

"Don't have to," he chuckled. AJ stood up and they really looked ready to fight. I just moved over from the swing zone.

"I know good and damn well y'all not about to fight!" I jumped when I heard a woman yell out. Scared them too because they both turned around with wide eyes. I looked and saw a tall buff dude next to this dark skin lady. She had her hands on her hip glaring at Bryson and AJ.

"Ah shit," Bryson muttered. "Goddamn snitch," he mugged Demetrius who was smirking in his seat with his phone in the air.

"You thought I was about to let y'all fuck up my new house? Yeah you trippin bub. I'm not getting in it because if you hit me then we're all gonna be in this brawling so I took the peaceful way out." I chuckled and shook my head. Even though Demetrius is the youngest he's gotta a chill laid back vibe to him that makes him seem like the oldest at times.

"Now why the hell y'all fighting?" the woman came up and grabbed AJ and Bryson by the ear and started pulling them away.

"Goddamn ma! Why the hell you so strong?!" Bryson fussed as she pulled them outside.

"Is it always like that?" I laughed.

Demetrius shook his head and sighed. "They make me feel old sometimes. Despite all that though they're actually really close."

"They just need a better way of showing it," the older guy, who I'm assuming it their dad, said before taking a seat. "Adrian Haynes, the original."

I shook his hand. "Zyshonne. Everyone calls me Zy."

"Your Little Haynes's boyfriend right?"

"Yeah." I guess this was a discussed nickname before we came because that's all I hear them refer her as.

"Nice to meet you. Just think of yourselves as part of the family."

"Thanks. I know Mo will appreciate it. She didn't have much family growing up."

"She told me," Meechie said. "Our family is small but we all lean on each other when times get rough. It's hard when there's not many people you can call that. I would like to meet my other cousins but I already know we won't mix well."

"I'm glad she has you now. With just her grandmother I always worried what would happen if she lost her one day. Although mama is a G. That lady swears she'll outlive us all," I chuckled just thinking about the crazy woman. Mo is just like her. Don't let the sweet face and kind demeanor fool you. Mo can get just as bad if not worse than her grandmother if she's pushed to it.

"That woman," Mr. Haynes chuckled. "How sweet her daughter was I never believed they were related until I saw her. They look just alike."

"So does Mo," Meechie smiled. "She looks like she's supposed to be my mom's kid."

"What y'all talking about?" The girl Essence came out of the kitchen followed by the other women.

"Nothing nosey," Meechie said as she sat on his lap. She mugged him.

"Anyways, Zy, Mo told me about the baby mama drama you're going through. I'm not familiar with family court matters but I do have connections. I'll hook you up with the lawyer I offered Crystal and AJ."

"Damn you too bub?" AJ said returning from outside. He was holding the side of his face like Bryson. I'm assuming they got knocked upside the head for fighting. "But that's good. Hammick can work magic. At first I was on the down an out and didn't expect to get anywhere. Essence told us about him and now we're going to court with more confidence than I thought possible. I'll finally be able to be with my boy."

"Really?" I felt myself get excited and relieved.

"Yeah. Hammick is all for helping single fathers fight back the system. Good fathers which I know you are one," she said. "You guys are family now and forever so whatever y'all need help with don't hesitate to ask."

"Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me." Mo sat next to me with a smile. Leave it to her to always be on the look out for me. I wouldn't be half of who I am now or where I'd be if it wasn't for her.

I'm just glad I wasn't too late to make her mine. That regret would've ate me up inside. Thinking back on my life before her I was always angry and getting the short stick. A bad ass kid with no future in sight. When I fought that kid for her back in the day I didn't expect my life to change so much because of her.

Even though she describes our first meeting like I was some hero but that wasn't entirely true. Yes, what he said made me act but I didn't fight him for her. He was an excuse I could use to vent out some of the rage that was burning in my chest. But it didn't help like everything else. The only thing that did help was her. I was never angry around her. I wasn't cold and dead inside. She filled my existence with a positive warmth that I couldn't let go. And I didn't and never will.

"Told you I'd keep my promise," she grinned at me.

I chuckled. "I knew you would." We spent the remainder of the day hanging out with her people. We learned a lot about them and we all got along. Bryson has an older daughter but she was at a sleepover but would be over the following day to play with Cadie, who already loved her other cousins. Seeing her happy made me even more determined to keep her. Cadie has more than enough loving people in her life. Which is why I know she needs to stay with me. How can she get this kind of love from anywhere else but her home?

Sorry for the late update. I sincerely hope everyone is staying safe in this pandemic. I've been busy with my 'essential' job so I haven't been on as much but I will be making time for you all!!! Hope you liked it.
