"I've got it," he pushed her out of the way as she tried to make him coffee.
"Geez, okay," she stepped aside and checked the clock, "Why are you up so early anyways, you don't have to go into work."
"Want to get an early start, duh."
After the morning before, they started once again avoiding the whole topics of Neil's heath and the way they feel about each other. Both of them felt as if they were about to burst.
"Just... call me if you need anything," she put the lid on her thermos and headed out.
"Yeah, yeah. See you later Eves."
She pressed on through the day, only needing to fill out paperwork.
"Eva!" Roxie happily exclaimed from the hall,
"How are you hon?" She asked.
"I'm doing okay."
"How's Neil?"
"He's fine... I think. I've been staying with him just in case something happens.
"Ooo~, spicy," Eva rolled her eyes.
"Rox, we're friends- well," the second the 'well most slipped out of her mouth she regretted it. Roxie was one of the most nosy people she'd ever meant. I'd she'd even stammered in that sentence she'd read into it.
"Whaaat!?" she bounced up and down like a child.
"It's nothing, let me finish this paperwork."
"Come on-"
"No, this is personal stuff."
"Ugh, fine," she walked out of her office and moved to her own. Eva sighed, remembering all the things they had left out in the open. She made a mental note to push through the awkward boundary and really talk to him. What she wasn't expected was for her to come home to Neil's apartment and not see him just laying on the couch.
"Neil!?" She yelled.
"I-I'm alive!" He called out from the bathroom.
She walked up closer to the door, was he throwing up?
"You good?"
"Doing GREAT."
"Then why does it sound like you're throwing up?"
"maybe because I am," he responded with a cold tone.
"Why?" she heard coughing.
"I don't know!"
"Open the door."
"Geez, okay," she heard the sound of him standing up, flushing the toilet, and then moving to the door. Then, she heard a loud noise.
"Neil?" a couple seconds, no response. She opened the door to see him passed out on the ground, his skin pale as a ghost's, "SHIT!"
She shakily grabbed her phone and dialed 911, and for the second time, he was taken to the hospital.
