The next two weeks went on normally, she was able to calm down the work flow and nothing of much importance happened. While Eva was walking out of her office she took off her lab coat and hung it up on a rack. She glanced over at her desk and made sure she put away her diary, then walked out at a steady pace. The tapping from her shoes echoed through the half empty hallway. She wasn't leaving too late that day, she decided to clock out at 6 pm so that she could make sure Neil ate a proper meal that had some form of nutritional value. She tucked her long black hair behind her ear and pressed the Lobby button on the elevator. It creaked as it descended down, but it was nothing to be concerned about. Sigmund would probably lay off employees before letting there be an unsafe work environment. Especially after what happened at Usuro, a simular company to theirs. The main difference between them was that Sigmund fufilled wishes for the people, while Usuro did it for the money. That was the main reason why Neil said he wanted to apply for Sigmund, though it was hidden underneath a pile of salt.
"You know I do like money, but why do it if it's some half assed work where the people won't even turn out that happy. Plus, I hear all the employees there HATE it."
Usuro loved to cut corners, and that was extremly apparent in the working conditions for the employees. On one of their elevators, the thing shut down with 5 employees in it, who ended up getting stuck there for twelve hours. After she heard that, she was overjoyed she chose Sigmund.
She stepped into her car and sat down in the drivers seat, then tossed her bag onto the passenger seat. Before starting her car she sent a message to Neil.
Hey, got off work early, we can have dinner together if you'd like.
She blushed as she realized that it sounded like she was asking him out.
We could cook or something
She cursed herself for making it worse than it already was. Instead of making it even worse, she turned her keys to start the car. The drive on the way home was peaceful, there was even a couple nice songs on the Radio that Eva could hum along to. She parked her car in her driveway and then went to the front door. The plants at the front had began to die due to her neglecting them. It was a shame, and almost a reminder of everything that had been going on. She grabbed her keys and turned the lock on the door. At first, she didn't see Neil. She felt slight panic, checking her phone to see if he responded to her texts. She took a deep breath when she saw no response, and slowly let it out, trying to stay calm. Once she took a couple more steps into the house, she saw him asleep on the couch. At first, she was relieved he was okay. She smiled to herself because of how cute he looked asleep. So calm, so still. He didn't look sick. Then, she looked at him again and noticed his position. He was hugging his knees, looking as tense as you could while sleeping. Eva felt her stomach flip. She bit her lip, not wanting to cry over something so small. This wasn't her, she was the brick wall of every group. She quietly walked away trying not to wake him up. A difficult task, since he was a light sleeper. She walked into the kitchen and tried to find some ingredients to make a meal, but she kept on having to remind herself to breathe. Neil was okay, he was going to be okay. He was going to return to work tomorrow better than ever, and they were going to go back to their usual banter. A part of her felt like there was a hole in her chest though, because things returning to normal meant he would be at his place and she would be alone in hers. She remembered Roxie's remark about how she had to catch him while he was still open and vulnerable. Implying that when they go back to work and things go back to normal, they would go back to closed doors and dark hallways that they were too scared to walk through. She felt tears roll down her cheeks. She hated it, how emotional she'd become. She was the strong one in her family when things went wrong, she was supposed to be strong for Neil while he was weak, she always felt as if she needed to fix everything, like when things went wrong it was all her fault. Maybe that's why she was so drawn to Neil, because there were so many things he needed help with. She pushed away the thought because of how messed up it sounded. It wasn't true, she knew that. If that was the truth she'd like him less after this, but her feelings were only growing stronger. She heard stirring in the living room and realized she woke up Neil. She wiped the tears from her eyes as he walked in.
"Y'know, next time you try to not wake someone up, don't try to cook pasta," he at first smirked at her, but then finally read the energy of her current situation.
She laughed, "yeah, my bad."
Neil hugged Eva.
"What's wrong Eves?"
"It's nothing, really."
"Come on," he pulled away from the hug, but was still holding her. Their faces were close to eachother, and since Neil was only a few inches taller than her they were seeing directly into eachothers eyes. Eva's wet hazel eyes were like a void that you could so easily get sucked into. Neil's big green curious eyes seemed to light up normally, but right now they were dull. They couldn't deny they both wanted to kiss the other badly in that one moment. How easy it would have been, but instead they pulled away taking a couple steps back, faces red.
"It's just...I looked at you while you were sleeping on the couch and it looked like you were in pain and... I don't know there's just a lot going on right now and I'm scared that once we go back to work things are just going to go back to how they were in a bad way."
"Dumplin, you don't need to worry about it. I'm not going to go back to bein' a druggie," he smiled. "I'm going to be okay, we're going to be okay.
And just like that, everything was okay again.
WOAH THIS WAS A LONG ONE. This wasn't even included in my outline, I just felt like I needed a Segway into Neil going into work. Well anyways, have a great day friends!!
