PART 16
Hey guys! I'm back! So I just though of something and I think it's a topic that I should definitely brush up on. I am currently on 24 hour duty so I have plenty of time to kill. If you guys were wondering, I only get 24 hour duty like once every other month so it's not so bad. Duty rotates through every shop so everyone in the MALS gets it.
Anyways let's talk about:
Theft, fraud, and identity theft.
All three of these things and many other things I'm sure, are one of the most common things that happen to military people.
The short time that I've been in the military, I've noticed these three common trends that happen quiet frequently actually.
It's happened to me twice, and I've witnessed it quite a few times.
Very often I will find several of the same accounts of marines that I know on Instagram. Random people trying to steal their identities and trying to gain more followers and trying to be them. Most often times these random people posing to be these military men and women will also go after their friends and try to dig up money from them. A situation that had happened to me believe it or not.
A random person posed as a marine that me and my other marine friend knew, and took money from my marine friend. My said marine friend had lied to me about her situation and I stupidly gave her account information to try and give her money to help her, and had my money stolen in the process. SO DONT DO THAT.
lesson learned.
Another situation happens where people pretend to work for life insurance companies and stuff like that, and these people go out to specifically target junior marines to take their money. Another situation that I had stupidly got into with another one of my said marine friends.
Another lesson learned. Guess I'm just stupid.
So be careful to who you help and who you give your information to. Also, don't sign up for life insurance companies with people who you randomly meet out in town. Companies like that are quick to take advantage and it could leave you in a deep hole.
The marine corps offers great services and opportunities for everyone, so take advantage of it!
Also, you guys don't seem to ask many questions, don't be afraid to ask or share articles or whatever! Ask away and I may have an answer!
