Fuck me.

How am I still sitting here and not bashing someone's head on the wall? Andrew gave me the eye the moment Rose threw water at me. This eye was a warning to suck it up.
I shut my eyes and closed my fist trying to make sense of my emotions.

Then I heard her voice. "Don't call me wet kitty you doofus," oh so that's what I got a faceful of water for. I suppressed a smile. What the heck. Smiling isn't my forte.

And then I heard three pairs of feet leave.

My head snapped in there direction. Violet Grace seemed to be dragging the girl through her arm towards the door, can't blame her with my reputation. The whole cafe had gone silent everyone was looking at our table. Looking where the drama will lead.

I started to get up, but suddenly Andrew was by my side. Trust him to assume the worst, okay so maybe it's not his fault, everything with me is always the worst but not this time, I wasn't going after Rose to do something stupid.

I just wanted to talk to her.

'And say what that you are sorry?' my inner voice not very kindly asked me.

"Come on bro" Andrew tugged me to the bathroom and handed me a very crumpled and sticky hand towel.

Ohh looks like the girl used it to get rid of smoothies.

"You are way calm right now." Andrew noticed now that the immediate danger that was me seemed subdued to him.

Andrew is dyslexic but he can read me like an open book.

"Am I?" I asked not paying much attention.

He looked at me and he must have decided I wasn't gonna murder anyone cause he left to pay the bill.

I stood there looking at myself in the mirror when I noticed something on the sink.

A necklace.

I picked it up. It was not a simple necklace, it was a locket.

Rectangular and so slim that no one would notice that it's a locket if they don't look carefully enough.

I opened the clasp and something flared up in me when I saw what was in there.

It was a picture of the girl and some blonde guy together on a swing. He is pushing her and both of them are laughing.

I could feel the anger burning up in me. And I had no idea why. I wasn't angry when she threw water at me, so why now?
Maybe now I was getting over the shock of what she did.

This picture did not look recent. It seemed to be taken a few years ago, her height looked smaller.

Andrew returned and saw me looking at the locket.

"Bro let's leave it with the owner, she will take it from him."

He still thought that I might snap. I could see he wanted to keep me away from her. After all, no one has ever dared to do something like that to me.

Ignoring him I kept the locket in my pocket.

"Bro, what's up with you?"

"I don't know," I answered him honestly.

***

I dropped Andrew at his home and had started driving around in circles.
I did not want to go home, Vanessa would be home from the airport by now. But seeing as I had to face her now or later I went home.

Vanessa is my sister. She is three years older than me, works as an air hostess and is away from home a lot. I envy her for this. She loves her job and goes around seeing the world while I am left behind alone in this miserable place to get by myself.

I pulled in the garage and got out of my car.
The moment I closed the door Ness tackled me in a bear hug.
I hugged her back. She is the most awesome sister. I love her more than anyone in my life.
I don't remember my mom doing anything for me as a kid, not that she does anything now but I do remember Ness reading me stories, giving me cookies, playing building blocks with me, including me in everything she did. After my parents put her in a hostel to complete her last year of schooling I felt alone for the first time in my life.
My mom and dad went about their business and were never home for me. And I didn't care either they weren't the once I wanted to be with.

"Hey buddy!" she ruffles my hair.

"Hi, Ness. How was Paris?" I asked her grinning.

"Great."
"I saw mom. Did you know she was in Paris?" she asked me

"Yeah kind of. She mentioned something about Paris but never really got to point" I said thinking back to the time at the dinner table when they dropped the bomb at me.

I had always had an idea that this was expected of me but never felt so surreal until they told me what I had to do.

"You don't have to do this," Ness said as if reading my thoughts.

"No Ness they haven't given me a choice," I stated in my no-nonsense voice. I had already come to terms with it.

"But it's your life, Ash. You should have a say in it," She said.
Yes, I did not have a say in it but now I did not have a problem with it either.

"You don't have to take over that gang!" She practically shouted.
