Part 1 Why?

(Y/N) POV.
    It was a perfect day, most were with Nate and Shaun. I had my family, Halloween was just around the corner, I guess that's kinda ironic huh. We knew it was coming, it was all so inevitable the world... The war I knew we couldn't have peace forever, but WHY? Why did they have to fire, why couldn't I have one more day? There was so much I still had to say, and why, why my baby?

    I sat in my old house in Sanctuary, a tattered blanket enveloped my whole body. The mattress beneath my body screeched like some beastly animal of the wastelands, any time I'd shift. I put a holotape in the holotape player part of my Pipboy. There was a low hum then the voice of a man broke the silence.

    "Oops, haha. Keep those little fingers away... Ah, there we go. Just say it, right there, right there, go ahead. Ah, yay! Hi honey, listen..."

"I don't think Shaun and I need to tell you how great of a mother you are. But, we're going to anyway. You are kind, and loving, and funny, that's right, and patient. So patient, patience of a saint as your mother used to say."

"Look, with Shaun and us all being home together it's been an amazing year but even so I know our best days are yet to come. There will be changes sure, things we'll need to adjust to. I'll rejoin the civilian workforce, you'll shake the dust off your law degree."

"But everything we do no matter how hard, we do it for our family."

Tears rolled down my eyes like a flood that couldn't be stopped.

"Now say goodbye Shaun. Bye bye, say bye bye."

"Bye honey, we love you...."

I sat on my mattress for a few more minutes after this, my hand brushing through my (H/L), (H/C). 'I hate crying, this place doesn't give time for such frivolousness. I can't
indulge myself like this, the Commonwealth needs me at my strongest, and I can't let them down.
I crawl off the mattress, wiping tears as I walk into the night light of Sanctuary.
