The marauders school era
I sat in the window seat of my large room. The green cushions spread around me as I watched the gardener cutting flowers with a flick of his wand in the grounds below. I'd be back in Hogwarts tomorrow. But it didn't feel the same.
My hair was slowly turning from its blonde to a soft shade of blue. A strange talent of mine that seemed to be inherited from no where. My hair and eye colour reflected my emotions. I could mostly control them, but now while I was alone, what was the point?
Tomorrow I'd have to tell James Potter. My boyfriend since second year that we could no longer be together. To he honest I'm surprised we lasted this long. I'm a slytherin, the Malfoy's daughter. Part of a Dark lord worshipping family. And yet I'm dating a 'traitor' like James.
I could never believe in my families plans for the wizarding world. But I cant speak up, that would get me killed. I'm not stupid, I can't be. I cant risk it. Surprisingly, Bella and Cissy and many of the other Slytherin's including my parents believed I was waiting for information. Collecting the trust of the gryffindors.
But by the end of tonight, mother will have sorted my marriage. Lucius too. Dear Lucius, my twin and I love him greatly. It broke my heart that at Hogwarts we barely spoke. When we were alone he's so different. But i understand, we play a risky game. A game where one wrong move could cost us our lives.
My mind slowly drifted back to who I would be forced to spend my life with. I just hoped for someone kind, someone who would have even the slightest respect for me. The door opened and our house elf walked in. He bowed low to the floor, his large ears just touching the carpet.
"Miss Malfoy, your mother had requested to see you in the drawing room." It squeaked. I barely batted it an eye, as I stood up letting my long dress fall to the floor. I focused on my hair going back to its blonde, and my eyes their brown, before I headed towards the drawing room.
I met Lucius on the stairs. He gave me a weak smile, I returned the gesture. "You might get lucky." I said squeezing his arm briefly. He was hoping for Narcissa Black, a long term crush and a good friend of mine. I knocked the door with an act of confidence. An act I used constantly.
"Come in." I heard mother said. The room was warm thanks to the large fire glowing in the ornate fireplace. Mother was seated in an armchair next to the table where a list of names was lying, as well as an opened letter. She signaled for me and Lucius to sit. We did. Lucius kept his eyes down, while I bravely met her gaze.
"I've had replies." She said with a small smile. "I picked out Lucius's a while ago and was just waiting for a response. It came back positive!" I gave a small nod with a tight smile. "You will be wed to Narcissa Malfoy next half term." Lucius face flickered with emotions before fading back to his blank expression.
"That sounds great mother, I never once doubted your skills." She smiled. I gulped, trying to breathe steadily.
"However, where your concerned Annabelle, I had more trouble." I didn't break eye contact. "While writing to the Blacks about Lucius I briefly mentioned how I was finding you rather difficult. And they proposed and idea, and I agreed." Here it comes.....
"Annabelle, you will be wed to Sirius Black, when I'm not sure." Sirius.... no. He was my best friend, and not only that but James's too! How could we explain that? At least, I thought, he wont be abusive. I nodded curtly to my mother.
"A fine choice." I commented, but my heart was racing. Does Sirius know? Hell does James know? He'll be heartbroken. Mother dismissed us, Lucius tried to talk to me but I dodged past him, running to my room. I got to the bathroom just in time to throw up.
I slipped back against the wall, rubbing my temple. A loud crash came from downstairs. "My lord!" Someone exclaimed. Great, just what I needed. I stayed sat on the floor, silent years slipping down my face. Someone knocked the door. I didnt answer it.
"Anna? Its Sev?" I staggered to my feet to unlock my bedroom door. Severus Snape stood looking awfully teird, and bruised. "You don't look to good either." He stated looking me up and down. "Lucius was ecstatic." He spat.
"Yeah well he's been paired with the love of his life." I sighed. Severus shot me a sympathetic look.
"Narcissa?" I nodded. I let him in shutting the door again. He sat down on my bed as I joined him. "Who do you get?" He said quietly.
"Sirius." Sev snorted, but stopped when I shot him a nasty look. "I know you dont like him, and to be fair you have good reason not to. But its better than some i could have had." I said trying to keep my voice level.
"I know I know." Severus said with a sigh. "I havent been paired." He said with a groan. "And its typical isnt it? I'll be stuck tormented not knowing who for another year! Watching Lily fall in love with some other guy." I glanced at him sceptically.
"Maybe you shouldn't have called her a mud blood." I said lying backwards on the bed. He shut his eyes briefly.
"It slipped out." He stood up walking to the window. "I wish she could see how sorry I am, and how much i love her." I didn't say anything. I trusted Severus with my life, as well as my secret relationship. But he could be very stupid. "The dark lords here, I'm staying here tonight so I'll be travelling with you tomorrow." I nodded softly. "I'll leave you to rest. Night Annabelle."
"Night Sev." I knew he wanted me to comfort him about Lily, but I just didnt have the strength. I was glad when I was left alone to cry myself to sleep. Panicked over tomorrow. Just wanting to fade away forever, I finally fell asleep.
