Mai: One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two . . . whoa.
Falling to the floor, Mai had stumbled on a move she had been wanting to do for a while now and was determined to get it right. Standing back up to do that move again, her teacher storms into the room and scolds her for not being properly trained or ready for that move yet.
Mai: How can I be trained or ready for it if I don't try to practice it! Why are you so adamant that Misumi do this trick and not me? Do you not see anything good me? Do you see me as some kind of disappointment? And here I thought I may actually get some actual training, but I guess I was wrong about that.
But before her teacher could get a word in edgewise, Mai ran out of the room with tears prickling her eyes and eventually ran out of the building.

'I can't believe he was defeated by a bunch of school girls! At least I can't fault him for wanting to team up with Drum of all people.'
Baton: Drum!
Drum: Here! What do you need?
Baton: Defeat the Precure and make sure to get it right this time!
Drum: Right away, sir.
With that, Drum was off to earth and Baton was back to doing more planning. If you ask me, that is way too much planning and he should get straight down to earth to defeat them himself. Well, no one asked for absolutely perfect writing.

To help herself calm down some, Mai decided to head on over to the market that has recently come to town and was eager to check it out. Despite not having any money to spend, next time when she had money to spend, she would come back to buy a couple of things. After walking around and having a look at the market for a while, Mai walked into a familiar looking student from the School of Dance.
Unknown: Whoa, are you okay?
Mai: Yeah, thanks.
Unknown: It's been quite a while since we've last met hasn't it.
Mai: It has, and I don't think we formally introduced ourselves to each other yet.
Unknown: Quite right. I'm Yamaoka Joey, what's yours?
Mai: Hayashi Mai, however, you can call me Mai. At least, that's what my friends do.
Joey: Nice, and you can call me Joey since we're skipping straight to first names.
Mai: Sorry. I guess being called by my last name is a strange concept for me. My siblings and I always respond when we hear it.
Joey: Whoa, really! You have siblings?!
Mai: Uh . . . yeah. Three of them, why?
Joey: You are so lucky, I'm an only child. I would give anything to have siblings.
Mai: I wouldn't be so sure about that. Siblings can be annoying and not to mention messy, now that I think about it, I'm not making myself look any better by saying that.
Joey: You're a funny girl, Mai. Wanna hang out?
Mai: Like . . . now?
Joey: Sure. I saw a nice little place around here somewhere. Come along, it'll be my treat.
Mai: Are you sure you want to spend money on me? I don't even have any to pay you back.
Joey: That doesn't matter. It will just be our little thing.
