It's Complicated

"I don't think this is gonna help Lewis." I sigh as we sit in his garage. He smiles at me as he wraps my hands.

"It will I promise. Just take out your emotions on me." He smirks standing up grabbing the pads. "Just picture Sam and Carter."

I sigh standing up as he holds the pads up in front of him. "I don't know about this." I mumble hitting one of the pads. He nods at me as if to tell me to keep going. Before you know it I'm hitting the pads like my life depended on it. Every bad feeling I had I channeled into each hit.

By the end I'm bent over trying to catch my breath. "How do you feel now?" Lewis asks shaking his hands out. I give him a thumbs up standing up straight as he shake his hands. "Damn you got quite the punch there."

"Thanks by the way... you're a really good friend." I smile at him wiping the sweat from my forehead.

"Yeah Yeah Yeah I don't like all this mushy stuff." He shrugs as we both take a seat on the bed of his dads truck. "So are we still going to go on with the plan?"

"Honestly I have no clue... it doesn't feel right. I feel like I'm using you and trying to mess with his feelings. We can still hang out I just don't want it to be like that." I shrug as my phone starts ringing. I hold it up showing him it's Carter.

"Hey." I say answering it as I kick my legs looking out at the street in front of us.

"Can you hang out right now?" His voice is low almost like a whisper.

"I'm with Lewis right now..." I trail off keeping my eyes on the street watching as a few cars drive by.

"I can come get you." He says his voice raising a little.

I sigh looking towards Lewis who's texting someone on his phone. "Sure we're at his house." Lewis suddenly looks up cocking his head to the side.

"I'll be there soon. Bye." He says before hanging up the phone.

"So Maybe our plan did work. We haven't even been gone 30 minutes yet." Lewis chuckles shaking his head. "One thing you'll learn about Carter real fast is how predictable he is."

"What do you mean?" I ask raising an eyebrow as I hold my hands out to him.

"He would do the same shit with Sam. We'd all be hanging out and she would FaceTime him and he would say I'm with the guys I'll see you later. 10 minutes later he'd be getting ready to leave." Lewis laughs as he takes the wraps off of my hands.

"Oh no that's cause she would flip out on him." I laugh to myself a little. "Cecilia and I witnessed a few of their fights. She was scary." I shake my head.

"No kidding. That makes sense now. He was always on edge when she wasn't with him." He says softly nodding. "well tell me how it goes." He gives me a little smile as Carter pulls up in front of his drive way.

I get off the truck turning towards Lewis. "No hug?" I raise an eye brow laughing a bit. He shakes his head at me jumping off as well.

"See you at school Henley." He says into my ear as he pulls me into a hug. I give him a wave as I walk to Carter's car getting in.

"Hey." I say softly feeling extremely awkward as he drives off.

"Hey." He sends me a small smile as we drive. The car fills with silence as I try to figure out what to talk about. All topics run through my head. "I'm a mess..." He finally says as he pulls up to Cornerstone park. One of the only parks in vegas that has a pond. I smile as I remember running my first 5k here.

"I think we're both pretty much a mess." I laugh a little shaking my head. "Who thought being friends would be so complicated."

"It's cause we're not just friends Henley. I can't see you as just my friend. After today I think it's the same for you."  He says turning towards me.

"Yeah I think you're right..." I nod looking over at him as I feel my body start to shake. I had never been in a situation like this before. I had never imagine myself falling for someone.

He lets out a breathe. "I was with Sam earlier cause she was giving me my stuff back." He nods to the backseat. I turn my head to see a box of stuff behind his seat. "I'm not going to get back with her... truthfully. I know it looked funny today but that ship has sailed. I thought you understood that."

"I do my irrational feelings don't though." I shrug looking back at him. "So What does this mean for us then?"

"I'm not ready to date you. If we're gonna do this I wanna do this right you know?" He says softly keeping his eyes on me as he reaches out holding my hand. He briefly looks down at my lips before scanning my eyes again. "But I can't seem to stay away from you."

"Yeah." I say my voice coming out soft and low as he leans in. I feel my heart start to race as his lips collide with mine. This time it wasn't soft and hesitant. He kissed me like I was his. I smile as I kiss him back resting a hand on his cheek as he deepens this kiss.

He pulls away breathing heavily kissing my cheek before sitting up straight. "So let's just go with it."

"But isn't that kind of confusing?" I find myself saying as I sit back in my seat looking out at the pond in front of us.

"I'm not gonna try to get with other girls Henley...." he mumbles running a hand through his hair. "I want you that's it. I just need to get over Sam and that relationship. It was very toxic. I don't want anything to ruin this."

"I don't know... is it suppose to be this complicated?" I ask looking over at him.

"No but I have a feeling this will be worth it." He says holding my hand. "Just trust me please."

"Alright... I trust you." I kiss his cheek.
