Sour Milk

"Come on like you haven't done anything worse than this." Carter says as he grabs my hand pulling me out on to the dock. Here we were at the lake all alone. I struggle to pull my hand away as he smirks at me. As much as I didn't wanna be here I couldn't help but get lost in the quiet.

"I'm not skinny dipping." I say crossing my arms over my chest as he lets go of my hand. "Plus were not even suppose to be here now..."

"I won't look I promise. I was just thinking maybe this adrenaline rush will make Cecilia leaving more bearable." He breaths out as he pulls his shirt off. My eyes automatically trail his body watching as his muscles flex in the darkness.

"You're just like your sister you don't know how to take no for an answer." I mumble looking down at my feet as he finishes stripping down before jumping into the water.

"Now you have to come in. It feels great." He smirks at me as he swims out a little more.

"Turn around." I say sternly. Once he turns around I quickly strip down to my bra and panties. I hesitate for a moment before taking them off jumping into the water. The moment my body is fully emerged I feel a sigh go through my whole body as if the stress I was holding onto jumped out of my body.

"Told you." He smiles swimming towards me.

"It feels good." I mumble swimming around a bit. "Whats Samantha gonna think when she finds out you're out here with me?"

"Well we're not together." He swims towards me causing a sudden rush of heat to spread through my body.

"For now. Wait a week and you'll be madly in love with each other again." I laugh nervously as we both tread water staying a float.

"I don't think that's gonna happen this time." He mumbles wiping some water away from his eyes.

"Sure you guys are like made for each other." I send him a smile.

"We're not... sometimes you get to the point where enough is enough. Things don't always work out like you want them to no matter how hard you try."

"What do you mean?" I ask him confused as we swim toward the dock he starts climbing up the ladder I quickly turn around waiting for him to get dressed.

"Come up my eyes are closed." He says causing me to start my climb. I peak up making sure he's facing the other direction before getting out quickly. I struggle putting my clothes on my wet body. "Someone once told me just because you put the sour milk back in the fridge doesn't magically cure it."

"But if you love someone...." I start to say tapping his shoulder. He turns towards me with a small smile.

"You can't always make things work Henley. Just look at my parents they fight more than they get along. Sometimes I think things would be better if they just gave up." He sighs running his hands through his wet hair.

"But everyone fights. If you love someone you live through it." I mumble as we start up the dock.

"Not when you lose yourself in the fights and stay angry. That's when the love fades and you give up. Sam and I have both hurt each other enough. I'm done with it." He shrugs looking in the direction of my car.

"Yeah I guess." I agree as my mind races. I have never had a boyfriend or even a guy who I was crazy about. I really have no idea what he's talking about.

"It's cool though I'm okay." He suddenly looks towards me his light brown eyes baring straight into mine. "Probably better now to be honest. I get to worry about myself and you I guess."

"You don't have to. I'll be fine at school." I give him a reassuring smile as a chill runs through my body from my now damp clothes. "We should've brought towels."

"Next time." He winks as we get to my car he pulls out the keys getting in the driver seat.

"Sure next time." I joke back knowing perfectly well there wouldn't be a next time. I knew where this friendship would lead. To nothing. He was here for only one reason. Cecilia.
