Goodbyes

A huge part of me was hoping that my parents would tell me to stay home but they jump at any chance to keep Cecilia on the right path. I wasn't even worried about dropping her at the airport I was more nervous about the fact I'd be staying the night with Carter than anything else. I've spent countless nights in that house but never without Cecilia.

I pull up to Cecilia's house honking the horn like any normal day. I look up at her perfect two story house painted a light gray with dark accents. I frown as I see her red VW beetle parked in the driveway. The last time we were in her car floods through my mind. It was the last party we went to together. As usual I drove us home stopping by Roberto's Mexican food to get something to sober her up a bit. By that time it was a little too late. I had to stop her from getting out and dancing in the drive through lane. A small smile spreads across my face at the memory. How did I not know that would be our last time really hanging out?

"Babyfat!" I hear drawing me out of my memories. Naturally I roll my eyes getting out to see Carter walking towards my car.

"Stop calling me that Carter." I mumble watching as he walks up in jeans and a white shirt.

"You know I'm just joking." He lips curl up into a smirk as he leans against my car. "I guess your right though that nickname doesn't suite you anymore."

"Or you could call me by my name." I suggest shrugging my shoulders.

"Naw you need a nickname. How about sweet cheeks?" He turns towards me. The moment his light brown eyes meet mine the world around us slows down.

I quickly look away tucking my bangs behind my ear. "Lets stick with Henley." I laugh a little as Cecilia comes out the front door with her bags in hand.

"I'll find one just wait." He leans closer to me whispering in my ear before stepping away from my car.

"Lets get the fuck out of here!" Cecilia shouts running towards my car. I give Carter a small smile before walking to the back of my car opening the trunk.

"I still can't believe your doing this cece." I say helping her place her bags in the car.

"I know it's so exciting. I feel like my hearts gonna beat out of my chest. See." She beams at me placing my hand over her heart.

"Id be worried if it wasn't." I laugh a little as we get in the car. I glance in my rear view to see Carter climbing into the back.

"Carter you really don't have to come." Cecilia says turning around in her seat as I pull away from their house.

"I gotta make sure Garret's gonna take care of you." He says shaking his head.

"You never cared before how come you care now?" She asks him turning around in her seat to look at him.

"Because you're leaving now. I have no way of making sure you're gonna be okay. We may fight a lot but I do want the best for you and you better believe I'm gonna make sure Garret is the best for you." He says crossing his arms.

"Awe is my bro getting soft on me." She laughs before turning back around.

"No you're just noticing now." He remarks looking out the window.

The rest of the ride to Garret's was pretty quiet which is unusual for us. Normally Cecilia and I would talk nonstop but things were different now. There was a thickness in the air surround us. A thickness we couldn't break through.

As I turn the corner onto Garret's street Cecilia nudges my arm. "Remember when we teepeed his house cause he won't leave me alone." I glance over at her. Her eyes sparkled like it was the first time she saw the world. That's the moment I knew she would be okay.

"How could I forget he came running out screaming at us." I laugh a little pulling up to his house. "I believe that was the night of your first date and you left me to clean up."

"Because you're my best friend and you always cared about my happiness." She smiles as we watch Garret make his way to my car.

"Always And forever babe." I laugh a little as Garret's get in next to Carter.

"You ready to finally get out of here?" Garrett asks as he leans over the seats kissing her softly before sitting back down.

"Dude that's my sister." Carter says puffing out his chest. I smile as I watch them from the rear view mirror taunting each other.

The ride to the airport was a lot lighter we were all smiling and laughing, trying to make the best of this goodbye. I pull up to the drop offs and get out.

"Call me once you land." I say as I help get their bags. "I don't know what I'm gonna do without you cece."

"You're gonna be fine. Plus Carter promised to look after you." She says hugging me tightly. "I gotta go..."

I pull away from her nodding before giving Garret a light hug. "Keep her safe or ill hunt you down."

"Yes ma'am." He nods at me with a smile on his face before they both head inside.

"What should we do now?" Carter asks resting his arm on my shoulder. I tense up as I feel tingles run through my body.

"We should probably head back to your house and sleep." I mumble waving to them one last time.

"I have a better idea Henley." He smirks at me running to the drivers side. I shake my head looking over at him. "Come on it'll be the time of your life I promise."

"Where have I heard that before?" I ask raising an eyebrow before getting into the passenger seat.
