My Hero

I half expect Carter to be at our spot as usual but the moment I see the bleachers empty I feel my heart drop. I didn't really understand what I did. He was the one who turned me down. I set my food in front of me as I look around hoping to spot Carter. After a few minutes I give up and put my headphones on blocking out the world around me.

After school I start my walk home. After lunch I didn't wanna see Carter or wait for him to finish practice. I pull out my phone calling Cecilia. "Hey!" She says happily into the phone.

"Hey best friend!" I say back with fake enthusiasm. "You ready for tonight?" I yawn feeling the lack of sleep taking its toll on me as I walk.

"Hell ya! I was thinking we could get ready over here. I'm out with my mom. Why don't you come over around 7?" She says as I hear her mom in the background.

"Sounds good. I'll let you go." I say softly looking down at the cracks in the side walk.

"Bye girly!" She says before hanging up. I put my phone back in hoodie pocket.

After 30 minutes I'm finally at my front step. As soon as I set foot in the empty house I feel the tears come. It's a flood that I can't stop. I lay down on my couch trying to calm myself down as my mind goes over this morning in my head. How can things go from perfect to a complete mess?

Like I promised I was at Cecilia's house at 7. To my lucky Carter's car was gone. "So tell me what happened." Cecilia says the minute I walk into her room. "Things were great last night. When I got home Carter was like a zombie he didn't speak one word to me." She looks at me knowingly.

"I told him I loved him and he started acting weird so I left last night. This morning when he took me to school he said we needed a break." I say quickly as i feel tears start to roll down my cheeks. "I messed it up." I sniffle wiping my eyes trying to stop the tears.

"What an idiot." She says pulling me into her arms. "Don't worry about it I'll fix. I promise. You're the best thing that could've happened to him and I won't let him screw it up." I sniffle more as she rubs my back. "No more tears we gotta get you ready. He's gonna regret all that crap he put you through." I pull away giving her a weak smile as she walks over to her closer pulling out her Pocahontas outfit. It was a short tan skirt and with a matching top that she had into frays.

"I like it" I smile nodding as I look at it. "I'll probably feel super uncomfortable but I like."

"Get that on and I'll set up my make up." She smiles walking into her bathroom. I change looking at myself in her full length mirror. I felt extremely uncomfortable the skirt was shorter than i liked. The top was cut off enough to show a large part of my stomach. "Damn girl look at you!" She says whistling I blush a little.

"It's not too slutty?" I ask raising an eyebrow.

"It's Halloween this is the one time of year where it's okay be to slutty." She laughs as we go into her bathroom. "Straighten your hair I'm gonna get dressed." I nod plugging in her flat iron.

After 30 minutes we are all set to go. Cecilia throws me a leather jacket. "If my parents see you like that they'll go ballistic." She laughs as I put it on.

"What about you?" I ask she dressed as a devil with a short skirt.

"They're use to me dressing like this. If they see you like this I won't here the end of it." She laughs a little as I nod.

The moment we start heading downstairs I can hear Carter's voice. He sounded different than normal as he talks to his parents. "Shit." I whisper looking at Cecilia.
