I. ONE

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰

THE NIGHT HAD BEEN DARK AS THE MOONLIGHT helped lead the girl out of the woods. Each step she took, the sound of branches snapping beneath her feet was to be heard, as she finally took a step onto the main road. She sighed in relief, as she looked to see a familiar face. Elena walking away from the party with a disappointed look plastered upon her face.

"Are Mom and Dad coming?" Ava asked, knowing they both were in trouble for sneaking out. "Yeah, they are on their way," Elena says softly as she tilted her head. "What were you doing in the woods?" Elena questioned with worry lacing her tone. Ava looked back into the dark woods, her mind growing blank as she thought of any reason for escaping the party to go to the woods.

"I don't..." Ava trailed off, "I don't remember."

Why couldn't she remember?

A car honk from afar filled her ears, causing her to be snapped out of her thoughts as they  turned to see their parent's car pulling up.

The brunette sighed softly to herself as she knew Elena and herself were in big trouble.

"When we get home we will talk about this, " Miranda Gilbert says to the two girls as they got into the car. As the Gilbert twins knew of the almighty speech that was forthcoming, they remained silent with nothing but a simple nod. The car remained inaudible. The faint sound of Poker Face by Lady Gaga playing on the radio cut off the anxious tension for the young girl as she tapped her fingers against her seat to steady herself.

Her father hummed along to the beat as he nodded his head when he made the swift turn, but it all happened in a quick second. No one could comprehend what had been occurring until it was too late.

The car began to swerve as the sounds of Elena's screams filled the air. The air became thick as Ava held her breath. The car crashed through the railing, causing it to submerge within the water. "Mom?!" Ava breathed out as her hand gripped onto Elena's out of instinct. "Dad?!" she yelled. "It's going to be okay," Grayson says to everyone, but to Ava it did not seem okay.

It was a nightmare.

A nightmare in which she could not wake up from, even though she was on the brick of death.
