XII. TWELVE

ROAD-TRIP

⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰

EVERYTHING HAD been a blur after the car had flipped over. Ava stayed still. Her mind tried to comprehend what had just happened. A cough escaped her lips, as shards of glass fell from the broken windows and windshield. She winced at the feeling of the tight seatbelt against her chest. The dark figure, whom she had hit, remained still. It laid not so far from her. It was dead. Or so Ava thought.

The sight of the man stretching caught her attention. The sound of bones cracking was not something she could miss. The figure, now known as a vampire, cracked and healed each bone into place as he stood up.

He adorned a hoodie, hiding his face as he started to walk towards Ava. The Gilbert girl snapped out of the fear state she was in as she tried to get the door to open but it was no use. She was stuck. She was alone.

Tears streamed down her face as the figure went to grab her. She closed her eyes in fear, hoping that he would kill her fast enough that she wouldn't feel a thing.

But then the dark figure was gone.

Ava's face scrunched up, as she looked to see that the place where the vampire once stood was empty. He was gone.

She sighed in relief.

A sudden gush of wind hit her face, causing her to scream. "NO!" Ava cried out, covering her face as she knew it was over now. "How you doing in there?" The familiar voice asked her. His tone was gentle.

Ava turned to look at him, only to see who it was. "Damon?" She asked, pain lacing her tone as Damon could see her tear-stained face. "You look stuck." He analyzed, as he stood up to try and flip the car over. "Eh." She whimpered. "It's my seat belt..." Ava tried to explain. She tried to move once more, only for Damon to stop her immediately.

"Shh, shh, shh!" He whispered to her as he tried to calm her down. "Aah." She whined. "Let me get you out of there." He said with a nod. "I want you to put your hands on the roof." He instructed. "Just like that. You ready?" Ava nodded her head.

"One...two....three."

Using his strength, Damon ripped the door from the car's hinges. He ripped the tight seatbelt that had almost choked Ava off as he gently picked her up. "I got you." He whispered to the girl. He held her close, his heart racing slightly as the situation was almost similar to Halloween night.
