It had been months...
Months since Y/N and Barry had been home; since they had seen daylight, since they had done anything aside from being Zoom's trophies.
The same small cell they were trapped in had become home, it was all they knew, all that they had seen in forever.
Y/N had held onto hope for so long, the day she realized that it was useless almost broke her. She wanted so desperately to go home with Barry, to see the team again, just to see something new for a change.
Y/N dreamt of breaking free and just running, feeling the ground beneath her feet; the wind on her face as she ran through the streets of Central City. And the lightning, the feeling of it coursing through her veins as she ran...she desperately missed that feeling...
That was a long time ago, now, Y/N dreamt of nothing...
Y/N was slumped down in the corner of their cell, she had lost hope a long time ago. Y/N stared out into nothingness as Barry continued to pace around the small space.
Barry hadn't lost hope...yet... He persisted, each day thinking of a new way to escape, but only to have Y/N disprove all of his theories.
However, today was different, Barry sat down, leaning against the wall across from Y/N.
"We're never getting out of here," he said softly, finally understanding what Y/N had been telling him for so long.Y/N nodded slowly as she rested her head against the wall behind her. "This is it," she replied. "I never thought that this would be how our story ended."
Barry sighed, "I thought the team would have found us by now."
"They've probably stopped looking at this point," Y/N told Barry. "We don't have any exact measure of time, but I'd guess that it's been a few months at least."
"Do you really think the team would give up on us?" Barry wondered.
Y/N shrugged, "I'm not sure what to think, we haven't seen the team in what feels like forever. It's hard to say if they would keep looking or just let things be and move on," she explained.
Barry shook his head, "I don't think they would give up on us," he mentioned.
Y/N sighed, "What's easier? Searching endlessly for your friends that willingly, or moving on?" she asked Barry.
"I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that question," he replied.
"We left them a note, Barry. We told them that we were leaving and that we weren't coming back because our plan had to seem legitimate, we event told Singh that we weren't coming back. So as far as everyone in the outside world is concerned, the Flashes willingly sacrificed themselves, and agreed to never return to Central City..."
"I remember," Barry told Y/N.
Y/N nodded, "We did this so that Zoom wouldn't destroy our city, but instead we left our city defenseless, and Zoom is wreaking havoc while we are stuck here, just waiting, for nothing."
Reality had settled upon Y/N a long time ago, and now it was settling upon Barry. "No one is coming for us, are they?" he choked out.
Y/N shook her head, "I'm afraid not...this time help is not coming..."
For once, Barry and Y/N were the ones that needed to be rescued. So many times they had saved others, they had been the ones to bring help, and now they needed help more than ever.
Being a speedster didn't pay off in moments like these. Seconds felt like hours, days felt like weeks and weeks like years. Time moved in slow motion for them, and they were completely alone.
Zoom would leave for days or even weeks at a time, but even when he returned it was only to taunt Barry and Y/N.
Barry and Y/N remembered that they had willingly gone with Zoom, but how could they not? Every metahuman in the city would have suffered a fate far worse than death if they hadn't.
It was the only way, at least that's what they were telling themselves.
But now, the two speedsters had no way of knowing if Zoom had honored his end of the deal, but that wasn't the worst part.
The worst part was that no one aside from the team and Captain Singh would ever know the sacrifice that the two heroes had made. They were doomed to spend the rest of their days in that same damn cell, forever Zoom's trophies of another battle he had won. Barry and Y/N were simply added to the list of speedsters Zoom had defeated, they were nothing...
But at least the two speedsters had each other, they were alone together...
