Another second, another minute, another hour, another day, another week spent in the same damn cell...

Y/N was sitting with her knees tucked into her chest as she stared out into nothingness. She was thinking, mostly of ways she and Barry could escape, but each time she thought of a new idea, she quickly thought of a way to disprove her theory.

It was a never-ending cycle, Barry went through something similar. He wanted nothing more than to break free and see his friends again. Though he didn't like to admit it, he missed work, he missed being the Flash, it kept him busy, and being busy was good. If he was busy, sometimes he forgot the harsh reality of the situation he was facing.

Though Barry felt worse about the fact that he and Y/N were stuck in this situation together, he couldn't help but feel responsible for he and Y/N's suffering. Y/N didn't blame Barry, how could she? She willingly made the decision to go with him, if she were to blame anyone...it would have to be herself.

Lately, that's all that Barry and Y/N had been doing, they were blaming themselves for being so foolish and falling right into Zoom's trap. They had spent countless hours trying to find a way to stop Zoom, and in the end, it was all for nothing, they had wasted so much time. All of their efforts were useless...and now...they both had all the time in the world, and nothing to do with it...

Nothing ever changed, aside from Hunter's taunts. Each time he saw the speedsters he had found a new way to strike a nerve within either Barry or Y/N.

Today was a particularly bad day, Hunter had been relentless with his mind games, and Barry was reaching his breaking point. Y/N would be lying if she said that Hunter wasn't getting to her, but she was trying her best to keep fighting.

"You know Central City doesn't even remember you two," Hunter told the speedsters as they sat slumped against the walls of their cell. "They've moved on, you two are nothing but a small part of their past-"

Barry couldn't take it anymore, he was reaching his breaking point. "You're lying," Barry interrupted as he looked up and met Hunter's eyes. Y/N recognized that look in Barry's eyes, it was a challenging one, it was a look that was daring Hunter to go further.

"Oh am I?" Hunter wondered as he leaned closer.

Barry stood up and approached Hunter, the two were still separated by the wall that only Hunter could breach for some reason. Barry wasn't intimidated by Zoom, not anymore..

"Yeah," Barry confirmed, his voice flat, he looked as if he was daring Hunter to make the first move. "I think that maybe they're still holding onto hope for us to return so that we can kick your ass."

Hunter laughed, "I'd like to see you try, Allen."

Barry stood tall, Y/N looked away for a moment, she knew what Barry was planning, and she knew it wasn't going to end well.

Hunter smiled as he stared Barry down with a menacing look in his eyes. This was he wanted all along, his chance to provoke Barry and then break him.

Y/N stood up and joined Barry by his side, she grabbed his arm and held him back, "Barry, don't-"

"No," Hunter interrupted. "I think I want to see Barry live up to his word."

Hunter phased his hand through the cell wall and pulled Barry through by the collar of his suit. Y/N could only watch as Barry fell to the ground at Hunter's feet. Barry quickly stood up as he and Hunter circled each other. Barry lunged forward to make the first move but Hunter quickly had him back on the ground in no time.

Again and again, Barry tried using his speed to beat Hunter but it was clear that Hunter was faster, Barry was outmatched on every level, and there was nothing he could do about it...

It broke Y/N's heart to see Barry like this, she knew that their time of sitting around had depleted their connection to the speed force, thus reducing the speed at which they ran. Barry was still fast, just not fast enough to beat Hunter Zoloman.

Y/N was screaming, begging for it all to come to an end. Y/N's cries only urged Hunter to go further. It wasn't long before Hunter was towering over a bloody and bruised Barry Allen. Hunter picked Barry up by the collar of his suit before he threw him back in the cell with Y/N.

Y/N met Hunter's eyes with hatred in her own, Hunter simply smirked in response.

"You might want to get him in line," Hunter told Y/N before he sped off.

Once Hunter was gone Y/N was right by Barry's side as she leaned him against one of the walls of the cell. Barry leaned his head back, he was exhausted, Hunter had been far more powerful than he had expected.

"Barry, what were you thinking?" Y/N asked softly, tears in her eyes as she took in Barry's appearance.

Barry's left eye was swollen shut and his nose was bleeding, not to mention the cut on his lip and the bruising along his cheek and jaw. He looked like hell as the pain slowly started to seep in now that his adrenaline had worn off.

Barry weakly met Y/N's eyes, "I thought I could beat him, that I could get us out of here," he told her. "I really thought I could handle him, but I was wrong. I'm sorry I wasn't better."

Y/N shook her head as she held Barry's hand, "Don't be sorry, this isn't your fault," she replied as she gently cupped his cheek in her palm.

Barry leaned into Y/N's touch, "But it is my fault. I promised you that I could get us out of here," he argued.

"I know, but I don't blame you for a thing, Barry. We both got ourselves into this mess," Y/N explained. "And maybe if we're lucky we'll both find a way out of it."

Barry nodded slowly before he closed his eyes and tried to rest, Y/N remained by his side. She was thinking, something she had been doing a lot of lately, she sure as hell had the time to do so.

After a few minutes, Y/N coaxed Barry to lay down, his head resting in her lap as she gently ran her fingers through his hair. She was trying to soothe him, there wasn't much else that she could do...

Y/N thought of what the team was doing, she had hoped that they would be looking for her and Barry, but perhaps they had lost hope too, she certainly had. Y/N knew that the team had more than likely moved on, that thought terrified Y/N. The idea that no one was looking for her or Barry, the idea that people would simply forget The Flashes ever existed, the idea that  help was not coming...
