The next day Y/N was still taking it slow and Barry was right by her side ready to help her. All of his attention was focused on Y/N, there was no one else who mattered to him more than her.
"How are you feeling?" Barry asked as he looked up and met Y/N's eyes.
Y/N reached out and held Barry's hand as he sat beside her on the medical bed, "Better than I did yesterday," she replied.
Barry smiled softly as he squeezed Y/N's hand, "Tell me what I can do."
Y/N shook her head, "Nothing, you being here is more than enough. I think you're forgetting that you are still healing too," she told Barry.
Barry nodded, sighing softly, "I know, I'm just worried about you."
"And that's very sweet, but I'm fine, I'm just sore and tired," Y/N replied.
"I would say that makes you not fine," Barry replied.
Y/N sighed softly, "I know I'm not doing great at the moment, but I'm doing a lot better than I have been for the past seven months, so I don't have a whole lot to complain about."Barry squeezed Y/N's hand gently, "I know it hasn't been easy for us lately, but we made it through...together..."
Y/N smiled, "I don't know what I would do without you."
"You'll never have to find out," Barry told her. "Is there anything I can get you?" he asked, noticing how Y/N winced in pain when she moved to sit up a little further.
Y/N shook her head, "Just keep me company for right now."
Barry smiled slightly, "I am more than happy to stay here as long as you want me here," he told Y/N.
Y/N smiled, "Now that I think about it, a cheeseburger sounds great right now."
"Maybe I can help with that," Joe mentioned from the doorway of the med bay.
Y/N smiled when she looked up and saw Joe standing before her, "Hey, Joe," she greeted.
Barry too smiled when he saw that Joe had come to visit, "What are you doing here?" he wondered.
Joe smirked as he revealed three Big Belly Burger bags, "I bring gifts," he told the two speedsters as he handed them each a back of food. "I figured you two were missing the finest cuisine Central City has to offer."
Y/N smiled, "Thank you, Joe, this is amazing."
Barry nodded in agreement, "It has been so long since I have had these greasy fries," he said happily as he dug into his food.
Y/N raised the large soda Joe had gotten her, "To eating way too much fast food way too fast."
Barry and Joe both let out soft laughs as they too raised their drinks, "I couldn't agree more," Barry mentioned.
The three then dug into their food, all of them happily munching away until Joe spoke up just as they were finishing their food.
"So how are you two holding up?" Joe wondered.
Barry set his empty bag aside, sighing softly, "We're fine," he told Joe flatly.
The happiness soon faded from the room, a silence quickly took its place as Barry turned and met Y/N's eyes worriedly with his own. Neither of them particularly wanted to talk about the time they spent with Zoom.
It was a part of their past, a part they would both like to forget...
Joe sighed, "Why don't you tell me the real answer to that question," he suggested.
Y/N set her bag aside as well, "Joe, what happened to Barry and I wasn't easy, but we're the only ones who went through it and for that reason the only people we want to talk about it to are each other," she explained.
Joe shook his head, "You two have to talk to someone besides each other at some point."
"And maybe we will at some point, we're just not ready to right now," Barry told Joe.
Joe stood up, "I get it, but if you don't want to talk to me, you should talk to him," he said as he left the med bay and Captain Singh walked in.
Singh was trained in dealing with these sorts of situations, he was also skilled at getting information out of people which is exactly why Joe sent him to talk with Barry and Y/N.
Singh took a seat in front of the two speedsters, "How are you two holding up?" he asked.
Barry sighed, "Don't ask questions you already know the answer to."
Barry knew Singh's motives, Y/N did too, and neither of them appreciated how the team was trying to get them to open up. Some things are better left unsaid...
"Look, I know it couldn't have been easy being with such a personal enemy for so long. But can you honestly tell me that no part of you wants to open up about that?" Singh asked.
"It wasn't easy but we made it through together," Y/N told Singh.
"And we're home now, we're both choosing to focus on the present versus what happened in the past," Barry added.
Singh paused for a moment, "Sometimes talking about the past helps us to move on."
"And we know about each other's past, and I'm comfortable talking about my past with Barry, and Barry alone," Y/N told Singh.
Barry nodded, "I feel the same," he said as he brushed his thumb over Y/N's knuckles gently.
Singh nodded, "I understand that you two want to cope with each other, but just know that if you need anything, anything at all, the whole team is here for you."
"We know, and thank you," Y/N told Singh as he left the med bay.
Barry turned and looked up at Y/N, he noticed how her eyes seemed distant, she was clearly deep in thought. "Are you okay?" he asked softly after a moment had passed.
Y/N was pulled from her thoughts and met Barry's gaze, she nodded slightly, "Yeah, I just wish everyone would stop bringing up the past, it makes it a little hard to move on."
Barry nodded, "I know, but now it's just you and me, and we can move on...together..."
Y/N smiled, "That sounds really nice," she told Barry.
Barry stood up and pressed a gentle kiss to Y/N's forehead, "You should get some rest."
Y/N knew it was getting late and she also knew that Barry was right, she nodded, "You know I love you, right?"
Barry smiled, "I love you too."
