Chapter 13

Barry and Y/N quickly finished with the news reporters, they sped back into the Cortex and were greeted by a smiling team. Everyone was happy for the first time in a long time.

Barry and Y/N missed this feeling, coming back from successful calls or missions always felt good. Everything was going their way at the moment, and they were going to savor the moment while it lasted.

"Welcome back, Flashes," Cisco said as he stood and hugged the two speedsters, congratulating them on their triumphant return to Central City.

"It's good to be back," Y/N told him as she hugged him.

"Are you two feeling okay?" Caitlin asked as she approached her friends.

Barry and Y/N nodded, "We feel fine, better than we did before that's for sure."

"Running towards something, saving people, there's just something about that feeling," Y/N explained.

"No pain or residual effects of the tachyons?" Julian wondered.

"We're fine, Julian," Y/N assured him.

"We're just making sure," Joe cut in as he too joined the group. "But if you two are sure that you're fine, then we're happy for you."

Cisco nodded, "I think every news outlet from Central City to Star City and everywhere in between is covering the return of the Flashes," he said gesturing towards the several screens in the Cortex that were switching between channels that were covering the story.

"I think everyone is pretty happy the Flashes are back," Joe added.

Barry nodded, "They should be, I know we certainly are," he said as he turned to meet Y/N's eyes with a smile.

"Look at how good my suits look on TV," Cisco commented as his eyes were fixed on the news reports.

Y/N let out a soft laugh, "I'm glad that's what you're thinking about, Cisco," she told him.

The team then began their own little conversations, Barry turned to Y/N and nudged her hand gently with his own, she looked up and met his eyes with a slight smile.

Barry intertwined his fingers with Y/N's and squeezed her hand gently as they stood happily with the team around them.

Y/N was living a dream that she had fantasized about for the past seven months, and she had Barry by her side which only made things even better.

Y/N knew exactly what Barry was thinking as he gazed down into her eyes.

The two slowly stepped out of the Cortex before speeding out of S.T.A.R. Labs and to a place they knew all too well.

Both of them tucked their suits back into their rings as they stepped into their apartment, somewhere they hadn't been to since they had been back. Joe had insisted that they spend a few days with him at his house while they readjusted, but now, they wanted to be back on their own.

Barry smiled, "It hasn't changed a bit," he mentioned.

Y/N nodded, "Joe told me he had been taking care of the place for us. He knew we would be back someday and he wanted it to be ready for us to come back to."

Barry wrapped his arms around Y/N from behind, his head resting against her shoulder, "He was right," he told Y/N. "We're back."

Y/N smiled at the feeling of Barry's arms around her, "We're home," she murmured as Barry nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck.

Barry pulled Y/N closer to him as he swayed gently with her in his arms, "Are you okay?" he asked softly.

Y/N nodded slowly as she leaned back into Barry, "Yeah, I'm still hurting deep down, but today has made everything a lot better...you being here has made everything easier to handle," she told him. "Are you okay?" she wondered as she reached a hand back to tangle in the ends of Barry's hair.

Barry hummed at the feeling, "I'm the same as you, still hurting, but as you said, today helped," he answered. "You've helped a lot," he said squeezing Y/N for a moment and pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek.

Y/N smiled as she turned in Barry's arms to face him, she snaked her arms around his neck while his arms remained snug around her waist. "I love you," she told him.

Barry smiled as he dipped his head down and captured Y/N's lips in a kiss, the two only pulled away when the need for air became too great. He kept his forehead resting against hers, his lips grazings over hers slightly. "I love you too..."

Y/N hummed contently at Barry's words as she leaned in for a second kiss, one Barry accepted gladly as he pulled Y/N impossibly closer.
