Annie:

What I had said to Cal had been cruel, and it definitely hadn't made me feel any better about what was going on, but I was pissed off.

I was in danger, that was all that dad knew at this point. Apparently he had known Dante when they were younger and had a huge fight, which had resulted in the end of their friendship. So why he was he after me you may ask? Who fucking knows! I just seemed to be pawn in some complicated werewolf game and I was fully prepared to take it out on anyone who crossed my path, whether they be friend or foe.

"Hey!" Cal shouted after me. I didn't turn around, I just sat down on the sofa and picked up the remote. I was going to my very best to ignore him because, right now, if someone was going to try and get into a fight with me, then I was going to give it my all.

"You know fuck all about it!" he bellowed, towering over me. I didn't even look up; I just pressed a button on the remote defiantly. Cal wrenched it from my hands and hurled it across the room. It struck the wall opposite and shattered.

"Do you mind?" I asked silkily. Cal made a furious noise and got really close to my face.

"What makes you think that you can treat me like this?" he hissed. "Right now, I don't care that you're my mate; I am this close to finishing you!" He was panted slightly and little beads of sweat were forming on his temple. Well, well. Was this the real Cal? Was this the Cal I had been warned about from Rick, who, in case I'd forgotten, was in hospital with a concussion?

"Hit me then," I whispered furiously, putting my face closer to his. "Come on, I dare you."

Cal licked his lips and the tension between us hit breaking point. Any moment now, he was going to draw back his fist and beat me to a pulp. He moved and I flinched.

His lips touched mine and I was transported into the most heart-pounding kiss I had ever experienced. It was like I was flying, soaring over the fluffy white clouds. Our tongues danced like the flames of a bush fire; wild and unpredictable. I rose from my seat and we broke apart. We just looked at each other, all of the anger and hatred vanishing into the air. He pulled me into a hug, holding me tight. I didn't protest. Suddenly, everything we had been fighting about meant nothing.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I'm so fucking sorry." And I really meant it. I wanted him to forgive me for the lies that I had told and I wanted him to see me differently.

I had never felt this way about anybody in my life.

"I'm sorry too," he murmured into my hair. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders; as long as I had Cal on my side, I could deal with the fact that, right now, there were a lot of people who couldn't stand me.

As long as I had Cal on my side, I could handle just about anything anyone threw at me.

Just about.

Dinner was awkward, to say the least. None of said anything to each other, apart from Sierra who could talk the hind legs off of a donkey if you gave her the chance. I think she might have been trying to break the ice but, from the look that Jase was giving me, he was ready to break my neck. I had made such a mess of everything.

But I knew how I could make it better.

"This is nice," Radleigh said, trying to make small talk. "What's in it?"

"Cod liver oil," Sierra murmured dreamily. Radleigh, Ade and I spat out our food onto our forks. Was she kidding? From the look on her face, I was guessing not. I had suddenly lost my appetite. Cal was watching me, trying to read what I was going to do next. I put my hand on his knee underneath the table to reassure him. I think it was me that needed the reassurance though; my plan was risky.
