"Minka, you obviously haven't tried it! A coconut smoothie is just as good as banana!"
Mitzi sighed as the girl who sat in front of her couldn't help but scoff.
"There's no way there's a smoothie better than banana, and that's that!" Minka crossed her arms, "end of discussion!"
The two girls were currently at the food court in the mall, having ordered some smoothies. Mitzi and Minka were sharing a small table, since most were already taken. It was a busy Saturday morning, when most people would be around shopping. Mitzi had invited Minka to hang out.
"If you say so..." Mitzi chuckled, twirling her straw around the smoothie, "So, anything new with you?"
"Well besides starting my art portfolio for class, nothing really." Minka leaned back against her seat, "You?"
"Well, there IS the little get together I'm holding later in the evening." Mitzi raised a brow, "You ARE still coming, right?"
"I wouldn't miss it!" Minka grinned in reply, taking another sip of her smoothie. As Mitzi began to dig through her purse for something, a thought suddenly came across Minka's mind concerning later tonight. A conversation she had with Russell earlier in the morning about their hangout. It was an odd one, something she never thought she'd hear.
She had woken up to the sound of her phone ringing.
-"You want me to WHAT now?" Minka asked, a yawn escaping her lips. She was still lying in bed, her phone on speaker.
"I just need you to try and ask Mitzi if your cousin can come hang out with the rest of us later." Russell explained, "You know, put in a good word for him? Maybe this would help him socialize a bit more."
"I get it, but...why?" Minka sat up, "I'm surprised you're even suggesting this..."
"Oh, no reason..." She could hear Russell chuckling from the line, "I just thought that it would be nice if they officially met. You know, after what he did?"
"Oh you're right. He told me about how he helped her yesterday!" Minka smiled, "I can't believe my scrawny cousin did that! Isn't he great?"
"Terrific..." He replied.
"Anyways, I think it's cute he wants to get to know her!" Minka smiled, "Maybe they'll become good friends!"
"Oh yeah. Good friends indeed..." Russell chuckled. "So you'll do it?"
Minka thought about it for a moment. Why the sudden suggestion? It was strange that Cheep Cheep and Russell are agreeing with something, and Minka felt a little off about it. Not that it was a bad thing. She really wanted the two to get along after all. Maybe this was an opportunity?
"I'll see what I can do." She smiled.
-
"Anyways..." Minka began to ask, Mitzi looking up from her bag, "I was wondering if I could bring someone along?"
"Oh? Who is it?" Mitzi perked up, "Don't tell me you have a clingy boyfriend?" She smirked.
"N-No no! It's far from that." Minka rolled her eyes, "Actually, you might already know him. It's a cousin of mine. He goes to the same school as us?" She hinted.
"Hm...have we talked?" Mitzi raised a brow.
"I guess you can say that..." Minka grinned. She wanted her to guess who Cheep Cheep was, just to see what kind of a reaction she'd give.
"Well, how does he look like?"
"He's kinda tall, way taller than me." Minka used a hand to show how tall he was, "he's got blue eyes, brownish hair, you know, kinda looks like me? Kinda?..." Her words trailed off, unsure of what else to say. "Kinda dorky? No, REALLY dorky!"
"Hmm...you're going have to be more specific." Mitzi sheepishly grinned. Minka couldn't help but roll her eyes. Soon, a smirk formed on her face, clasping her hands together on the table.
"The one who stood in front of those boxes that day?"
That made Mitzi's eyes widen, now starting to remember. "Him? That's YOUR cousin?"
"Yup! His name is Cheep Cheep! He's like the only cousin I have around here." Minka explained.
"Is that right?.." Mitzi titled her head as she placed it on her hand. "My, he was certainly brave when he helped me out. It would be nice to officially meet him.."
"Yeah! That's what I said! Actually, it was Russell's idea for some reason." Minka furrowed a brow, "though, I'm not sure why. Those two always bicker about something, and it's kinda hard to stop them..."
"I can see why." Mitzi chuckled, "Well, he's more than welcome to join us! Any friend of yours is a friend of mine."
"Awesome!" Minka smiled.
"Thinking about it now actually," She began to say, "he is kinda cute." Mitzi smirked, batting her eyelids. This made Minka suddenly stop sipping on her drink.
"Say what now." Minka blinked.
"I mean sure, I've already noticed plenty of boys eyeing me from afar," Mitzi explained, "but somehow, he's...different? Well I can't really say anything until I've had a decent conversation with him, but he is cute."
"Um..."
"Plus, he seems nice enough. After all, he risked himself just for me. I don't think anyone's ever done something like that for me before-"
"OKAY! I think I see where this is going!" Minka nervously laughed, waving her hands around dismissively.
She wasn't sure what to think. Mitzi was so straightforward, as if she wasn't afraid to express herself! She literally expressed her interest in Cheep Cheep in a way that seemed friendlier than expected. Mitzi didn't seemed fazed by it, as she simply smiled in return.
"Terrific! Well, I better get going now, but I'll see you two later tonight!" Mitzi winked as she gathered her things. "Don't forget, tell him I'll be waiting!" With that, she left, leaving Minka there sitting alone, speechless.
"What....the heck just happened?..." She felt her eyes twitch. When she said she wanted them to become good friends, this wasn't what she had in mind at all. How did someone like Cheep Cheep catch her attention? He was a dork.
Suddenly, her mind went back to Russell. Did he know? And why didn't he just tell her? She sighed as she reached for her phone, dialing Russell's number.
Somebody was about to get an earful.
