"So Sydney called and told me that you're living with her. That's a good thing right? It means that you won't have to be around your dad. I heard about what happened to the lab. Did you have something to do with it? I swear I won't be mad if you did. I know your going through a hard time. Just know that I'll always be here for you. I love you. Miles."

••••••••••

"So I told my mom that I'm gay. Yep, that really just happened. She took it better than I thought. She knew automatically that we were together. I think she's just happy I'm not in a gang. And is your phone broken or something? Miles."

•••••••••

"I went over to Sydney's apartment today. You weren't there. I really wanted to see you but I guess we could always meet another time. Tell me when you're available ok?"

•••••••••

"Hey Axel. We haven't spoken in a while. I just hope that you're doing ok. I miss you."

•••••••••

"Hey this is Miles, your boyfriend, calling you for like the 100th time. Are you avoiding me?"

•••••••••

"Since when did you drop out of school?! This whole time I thought you were ditching!"

•••••••••

"Axel. There's someone in my house."

The last voicemail makes Axel's skin crawl. The fear obvious in Miles' quiet whisper, the sound of something smashing in the background. It causes a cold shiver to run down his spine. He races out of Sydney's (their) apartment and sprints to Miles' house. He left the message 20 minutes ago.

When he approaches Miles' home he sees that the front door is broken, the house ransacked. He runs upstairs and Miles' room is trashed. Axel's eyes land on a note on Miles' cracked mirror.

'A kill for a kill. You or the human. It's your decision, meet us by the mansion or we'll make the decision for you."

Axel doesn't think twice. He doesn't need to. His life or Miles? The answer was easy.

Axel has never ran faster. The trees blur as he runs through the forest, following Miles' scent, willing his body to move quicker when he smells his newly spilled blood.

He stops at a halt when he sees Miles. Two men holding him and a black bag over his head.

He's bruised and bloody and screaming Axel's name.

"I'm here Miles. I'm here. I swear I won't let anything happen to you."

Miles' small body trembles, he's in his pyjamas, the soles of his bare feet sore and dirty. Soon the cold night will become relentless and the boy will freeze.

With the overwhelming anger welling up in him, Axel swears he could kill again. But the odds were against him and two vampires were already holding his arms behind his back.

"Axel Jacobson, do you know what we do when one of our own kills another?"

Axel doesn't recognise the voice. The man speaking wears a mask. Fucking coward. At least Elias showed his face.
