Alex rested on her bed looking out the window at the moon and the stars. She was worn out after dancing all day with Jason, but they were making good progress. She was just worried it wouldn't be enough.
She rolled over and looked at the picture of her mother from the Miami City Ballet on her night stand.
"This is what you wanted, isn't it?" she asked. "Well, I'm doing it. I wish you were here. I even wish dad was here." She sighed, "I wish he never sent you that message. Then you'd have been looking at the road instead of your phone and you would be here. And he would be here too. I miss you... I miss you both."
She wiped away the tears that streaked down her cheeks, rolled over, and stared at the moon again; lost in thoughts about what could have been until sleep overtook her.
