First day was a wreck but so far it's been the best one I've had. And that's sayin' a lot. I made a few friends who were kind enough to show me where most of my classes were. Maya, I met in my second period which I share two other periods with her as well. She was this cute little Asian girl with a lit sense of style. She rocked the vintage look and I absolutely envied her fake lashes which actually got me to complimenting her on them. That led to makeup talk, to fashion talk, to boy talk which led to me finding out she's actually Bi and has a girlfriend named Alyza. They've apparently been together for 2 years now which was adorable.

I exchanged numbers with her and mentally high fived myself for making a friend who genuinely seemed to like me. There's always that anxiety in the back of my mind that says she's lying and wants to make a fool of me but I'm strong enough to move on from my petty fears and enjoy my time.

Preston was the other friend I made, who made it clear he's strictly dick driven. I laughed to myself thinking about how that conversation went down.

"What's the date today?" I asked the boy in front of me. He turned, I noticed how deep his blue eyes were, it was difficult to look away.

"The 15th, you're gorgeous by the way." I smiled and mentally drooled at the sound of his Aussie accent. "I'm strictly dick driven so don't worry, I'm not flirting with you."

I also got his number as well, another high five for me. I was surprised at how okay today went besides the few racist comments thrown behind my back and couple confrontations I had with Roxy and Gaston. Or was it Reba and Gordon? Rhonda and Gandolf? Don't know. Don't care.

"Mija! You're home!" My dad called out. I rushed to the kitchen where my dad was in his workout clothes, drenched in sweat.

"Hi daddy!" His curly, black hair held drops of sweat but that didn't stop me from tackling him into a bear hug. "How was work today?" My dad set down his bottle of water and hugged me back.

"Surprisingly good. Long and a lot of work but good. How about school?" To anyone else, the hint of fear and concern in his voice would've gone unnoticed but my dad and I have been through enough to know how to read between the lines.

"Better." I said with a reassuring smile.

"Better?" He asked, his eyes hopeful and his smile wide.

"Better." My dad gave me a tight hug and a kiss on my head before letting go.

"Let's celebrate our first days! Pizza?" I nodded quickly as my dad gave me a thumbs up and ran up the stairs, probably to take a shower.

My dad and I moved from San Jose to the small town of Modesto. After an incident back home and the transferring of 3 different high schools, it was time for a change. Things were so different here. First off, there were way less people here. You could cross the whole town of Modesto in like 10 minutes. There's also a ton of white people here which is far from what I'm used to. There also doesn't seem like much to do here. Just restaurants and movie theaters with the occasional bowling ally. But I'm not about to judge too quickly.

Finding a pizza place on the Uber Eats app was easy since there's about a million food options here. I ordered a vegan/vegetarian pizza (which I'm beyond surprised that they had) along with a meat lovers pizza for my daddy. We eatin' good tonight.

The next morning was a little easier than yesterday morning. I didn't throw up and I didn't have a panic attack, that's a HUGE success. Taking a shower and properly dressing myself was a chore but got it done and in record time. I had a good 30 minutes to spare before leaving for school.
