he didn't believe in love.
Not 'true' love.
The love where you get married, start a family of your own, maybe get a pet-nice house and car. That kind of thing?
Yeah.
No.
Not Dan.
He didn't believe.
Family love, yes.
But not love love. no no. that was just people with very strong feelings for each other.
you cant fall in love with a person!
That's stupid.

Phil Lester, he was different. he was a hopeless romantic, believed in soul mates- the whole lot.
He didn't think life had a point if you didn't have a person to stand by you for it.
What would be the point in life without love?

Funnily enough, Phil was Dans best friend.
One of the best bonds there is out there.
Phil knew.
But Dan didn't believe.
Their friend knew.
But Dan didn't believe.
Their family knew.
But Dan just didn't believe.

Dan had no reason not to believe in love.
He just didn't think it was scientifically possible.
He thought you could maybe feel strongly about a friend but you can't ever fall in love with them.

"It's silly.
Stupid.
Waste of time. really."
That's what he would tell people when
they would question why.

Phil was determined to tell and even show Dan his love. he loved him more than words could explain, soulmates. But Dan couldn't see that.
Dan saw the both as very close friends.they could say and do anything together. The way Dan described them made it sound like love. but he didn't believe.

Six months later, the two are at a New Years party. there are lights everywhere, people dancing,having fun and of course drinking.
The music is loud and no one has any worries.
Both Dan and Phil remain friends still, Phil however in love.
They're sat on a cough, legs touching, Phil's head sat comfortably on Dan's shoulder- both too intoxicated to even notice how close they were.

suddenly out of no where someone screamed
"ONLY 15 SECONDS UNTIL NEW YEAAAAR!"

And then the countdown began.

People began rushing around trying to find their partners.

The music began to lower.

People started joining in with the countdown.

Phil sat up looking at Dan, eyes full of hope.

"What?" Dan asked, laughing at everyone rushing to find someone to kiss.

"Dan?"

"Yes Phil?"

"I need to tell you something."

"Go ahead"

Phil turned, looking Dan - their eyes locked before quickly pulling Dan closer.

Phil connected their, both of their eyes closing.

And that was it.
Suddenly Dan realised what love was. he understood why it's complicated. why it's perfect. Why people say you have to wait.
It all made sense.
It was Phil.
Phil was him
Dan started to kiss back, holding onto phils neck, deepening the kiss
Cheers erupted from the party, people laughing, quickly giving their loved ones pecks. Fireworks set off, loud explosions littering the sky.
Not that either of the boys noticed.
They we're too busy dealing with their own explosions.
