Y/N and Hermione had consciously agreed never to discuss what happened that night. But Y/N noticed that Harry and Ron were buzzing with excitement, no doubt wondering what the three headed dog had been guarding.

Harry had been gifted a Nimbus 2000 at breakfast the next morning, which was apparently a top quality broom. He hadn't opened it at the table of course, but Y/N distinctly heard Ron squeal 'Nimbus 2000!' a few dozen times.

Hermione had stubbornly refused to speak to Ron and Harry at all, which didn't really seem to bother them much to her annoyance.

When Harry and Ron left the Great Hall that morning, they were tailed by Draco Malfoy, who swiped Harry's broom while they were in the corridors and reported him to a passing Professor Flitwick. Much to his annoyance, Flitwick simply chuckled and patted Harry on the arm, congratulating him on becoming Gryffindor's Seeker.

Y/N and Hermione had walked by just as Harry said. "Its really thanks to Malfoy here I've got it." and laugh about it to Ron after Flitwick and Malfoy had left.

"I suppose that's your reward for breaking the rules?" Hermione snapped at them.

"I thought you weren't talking to us?" Harry asked.

"Yes and don't stop now." Ron said. "Its doing us so much good."

Hermione huffed and stormed away. Y/N lingered for a bit, before sighing and following after her.

After lessons that day, Y/N and Hermione studied in the library, Hermione rambling on about Harry's broom and how he didn't deserve to have it. Y/N just sat meekly, not daring to inturrupt her.

After a solid twenty minutes of listening to her, he decided enough was enough.

"Hermione," he interrupted. "You're my best and only friend and I care about you a lot, but for the sake of protection to my already partially ruptured eardrums I must ask that you please stop rambling about Harry's broom."

Y/N waited for the dam to burst, he didn't have to wait long.

"Who's rambling? I'm not rambling, I'm talking! Talking about that stupid broom and how he should never have gotten it and it was completely immature of him to break the rules that day and the teachers should have punished him instead of rewarded him. You know what I mean?"

"No Hermione." he said sarcastically. "I have no understanding of the harshly complicated concept you've explained eight times already!"

Hermione looked stunned. "Eight times? Oh no, I have been rambling haven't I? I'm sorry Y/N, it's a habit."

Y/N sighed. "Hermione, I understand how you feel about this, and as much as I agree with you, don't you think that Harry at least slightly earned that broom? He has skill, and even though he broke the rules to prove that, he broke them while trying to stand up to a bully. So in my eyes, Harry earned his reward."

Hermione looked at him for a good minute, then looked down, slightly ashamed.

"You're right Y/N, I shouldn't be so angry about it."

Y/N then smiled mischievously. "If it helps, Harry wasn't the only one who broke rules that day you know."

Hermione looked confused, but after a short amount of time remembered how Malfoy had toppled off his broom. "Oh Y/N you didn't!" she exclaimed, wide eyed.

Y/N let out a laugh. "Whoops, looks like your best friend is a rule breaker." he teased.

"Y/N! You could've seriously hurt him! You could've gotten expelled if you had been caught! What if the others had seen you? They would've hated you even more! What if -"
