Quirrell, however must have been braver than they'd thought. In the weeks that followed he did seem to be getting paler and thinner, but it didn't look like he'd cracked yet.

Every time they passed the third floor corridor Y/N, Hermione, Ron and Harry would press their ears to the door to check that Fluffy was still growling inside. Snape was sweeping about in his usual bad temper, which meant that the stone was still safe. Whenever the four of them passed Quirrell Harry would give him an encouraging sort of smile, while Y/N would hold his gaze and give him a determined nod. Ron had started telling people off for laughing at Quirrell's stutter.

Hermione however, seemed to have more on her mind than the Philosophers Stone. She had started drawing up revision timetables and colour coding all her notes. She also began nagging them to do the same.

Y/N of course began revising straight away, mostly because he desperately wanted to pass the exams, but also partially to stop Hermione nagging him. Harry and Ron weren't so cooperative.

"Hermione the exams are ages away."

"Ten weeks," Hermione snapped. "That's not ages, that's like a second to Nicolas Flamel."

"But we're not six hundred years old." Ron reminded her. "Anyway why are you revising anyway, you know it all."

"Why am I revising? Are you mad? You realise we have to pass these exams to get into second year? They're very important, I should have started studying a month ago, I don't know what's got into me..."

The teachers were thinking on the same lines as Hermione. They piled so much homework on them.

Y/N's popularity with the rest of the school had, as expected, drastically improved as far as the Gryffindors were concerned, almost all of them treated him normally at last, the Ravenclaws weren't so bad anymore, the Hufflepuffs remained bitter but only because he had beaten their team, but over time even their numbers of idiots decreased slightly.

The Slytherins had begun spreading the rumour that Y/N had deliberately injured Harry himself just so that he could become reserve Seeker, and the stupid few who still disliked him actually believed it.

One morning Y/N and Hermione had gotten up early to study in the Library, Harry and Ron weren't awake yet so they went alone.

Y/N revised for a good hour and a half, and didn't look up till he heard Hermione say, "Hagrid! What are you doing here?"

Y/N looked up from One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi to see Hagrid shuffling into view, hiding something behind his back. He looked very out of place in his moleskin overcoat.

"Jus' lookin'," he said, in a slightly shifty voice that got their interest at once. "An' what're you lot up ter? Yer not still looking fer Flamel are yeh?"

"No, we already found out who he is." Y/N said, smiling slightly. "And we know what the dogs guarding."

Hagrid looked uncomfortable.

"There are a few things we want to ask you actually." said a familiar voice. Harry and Ron slided into the Library where they sat, Ron rubbing his eyes slightly. "About what's guarding the stone apart from Fluffy -"

"SSSHHHH!" said Hagrid desperately. "Listen - come and see me later, I'm not promisin' I'll tell you anythin', mind, but don' go rabbitin' about it in here, students aren' s'posed ter know. They'll think I've told yeh -"

"See you later then." said Harry.

Hagrid shuffled off.

"What was he hiding behind his back?" said Hermione thoughtfully.
