Chuck talked to Newt often, hinting that he knew about his injury.
Did he? Did Chuck know how Newt got his limp?
Newt would try to ignore it, try to tell himself that it's a joke; all Chuck is doing is playing a joke on Newt. A harmless prank.
Minho wasn't acting like himself. He was distant. Alby tried to talk to him, but the Runner would scoff Alby.
"You don't know what it's like. The pressure of being a Runner. Everyone is depending on you to find a way out."
Newt and Alby knew that 'everyone' meant Newt. Minho was being pressured by Newt. Minho needed to find a way out for Newt.
"Chucky!" Minho yelled over the blaring noise of the doors closing. "I need you."
"You do?" Chuck was eager, eager to help, to show Gally that he was convenient. "What do I do?"
"Well Chucky, what are you good at?" Minho asked.
Chuck cocked his head and confusion spread over his face, "Why'd ya ask me to help then? If you don't know what I should do?"
Minho furrowed his eyebrows and scrunched his nose, "Any help is good help."
Chuck smiled and his bubbly personality began to show, "Good that!"
Minho turned so the young boy didn't see him roll his eyes, "Just go clean up some klunk or something. It's getting late."
Chuck looked at doors after Minho's statement. They were closed, indicating the day was over.
Chuck got right to work. He couldn't be the obstacle Gally thinks he is. He couldn't.
Newt was propped up against the wall, again, in the middle of the night, alone.
'Ironic.' He thought 'I am the same place, by myself, in the darkness.'
Again, he looked up at the wall. It was high, very tall.
"Was it worth it?" Chuck startled Newt.
"Bloody Hell!" Newt screamed in reaction.
"Sorry," Chuck looked down and studied his shoes. His eyes drooped, creating an expression that was very undesirable to look at.
Depression.
"Well Chuck. It wasn't worth it," Newt said. "To answer your question."
Lies.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Stupid choice I made."
Lies.
It seemed that all Newt did was lie. First to Minho, Winston, and now little Chuck.
"Thanks man," Chuck smiled, more of a sympathetic one, and slowly walked away.
Newt whispered, for Chuck not to hear, "It was worth it."
