Dan avoided Louise at school the next day. He hung out with Phil instead. They didn't talk much though; Dan didn't feel like talking.

"Dan, what's wrong?" Phil asked on the way to math class.

"It's nothing," Dan replied, walking a little faster. Dan knew Phil would be worried, so he knew he couldn't tell him his secret. They walked into math class and Tyler approached them.

"Hey!" Tyler said with his usual smile. "Dan do you mind if I borrow your jacket? It's so cold in here."

Dan panicked a little. There was no way he could lend Tyler his jacket and still keep his secret. "Uh w- well I'm cold too."

"Okay. I'll borrow Joe's. Anyway, is there any chance you'll let me copy your math homework?"

Dan rolled his eyes and let Ty copy off of his homework. As soon as Ty went to sit at his seat, Phil turned to Dan. "There's something you're not telling me." His eyes were filled with worry.

Louise walked into class then and sat down across the room for her usual seat. Dan couldn't help but catch a glance at her. The colors made her ten times more beautiful than she was in black and white.

"Did something happen between you two?" Phil asked. Dan just shook his head and went to stand by his desk. He began to feel dizzy and lightheaded, so he used his desk to steady him.

"Dan? Are you feeling okay?" Phil asked.

"No," Dan whispered. He ran out of the room and hurried to the boys' restroom with the sudden urge to throw up. He remembered walking by the teacher in the hall and hearing Phil's footsteps behind him. But he didn't remember what else happened until he came to in the boys' restroom while he was puking in one of the toilets.

"Dan, are you okay?" Phil asked. Dan was sitting on the floor in one of the stalls.

Dan shook his head. "I'll go to the nurse." He looked down at his vomit covered shirt. "Oh dammit."

"I have an extra shirt in my locker. I'll go get it if you want," Phil offered.

"Thanks Phil," Dan said as Phil left the bathroom to go to his locker. Dan went to the sink and washed his face and hands. Phil was back in a few minutes with a t-shirt for Dan to borrow. Dan held it up to look at it. It had a gengar on the front.

"Pokemon? I didn't know you were into Pokemon," he said.

Phil smiled and nodded. "Yea. I love it. So are you gonna change or what?"

"Oh yea, sorry," Dan said nervously. He slowly walked into a stall and locked the door. He changed quickly so Phil wouldn't have to wait long. But he didn't understand why Phil wanted to help him. He was Dan, the popular kid.
Dan finished changing and hurried out of the stall. "Let's leave," he said.

"What?" Confused Phil is confused.

"Let's go to my house or something."

"But Dan, I've never skipped before." Phil whined.

"Come on, it'll be fine," Dan promised Phil.

"Okay, but if we get caught I'm blaming it all on you."

"We won't get caught. Now let's go." So Dan and Phil walked out to Dan's car.

Dan drove to his house. They didn't get caught leaving the school, but if his mom happened to come home early...
Dan bit his nervously bit his lip. There was a 10% chance she'd be home early. But he knew she normally got off work pretty late, so he didn't have to worry too much.

When they got to his house, Dan parked in his usual spot. They walked into the house and up the stairs to Dan's bedroom. The two boys decided to watch anime, and one episode turned into 20. They ended up falling asleep together in Dan's bed, the duvet keeping them warm while they slept.

Phil woke two hours later. Dan's mom was home, but that didn't matter now. Phil snuggled up closer to Dan and rested his head on his shoulder. Dan's skin felt warm, almost feverish. Phil assumed Dan would be out sick the next day. Phil shook Dan's shoulder a little in attempt to wake him up. Dan only moved a little, but enough for his sleeve to expose his wrist.

"Dan!" Phil whispered loudly.

"What?" Dan mumbled, putting his pillow over his head.

"Dan!" Phil whispered again.

Dan turned to look at Phil. "What?"

Phil pointed to Dan's wrist, and Dan knew he'd been caught. They stared at each other for a while, not sure of what to say to each other. Eventually tears dampened Dan's eyes and he leaned in to hug Phil. "I'm sorry," Dan whispered. "I'm so sorry."
