They ended up at a small little coffee shop a few blocks away. The smell of coffee flooded the air as they opened the cold metal door. After quickly ordering their coffee they found a small table by the window and sat down. There was a moment of awkward silence as neither of them knew what to talk about. Virgil gazed at his old best friend and started to get the familiar feeling of butterflies in his stomach. He would never admit it but he had a crush a Remy since high school and was heartbroken when he found out he was planning on going to England, but he was older now and had grown out of those feelings. Right? After a few more moments of silence virgil decided to break the silents. “So...how was England?”

“Cold and wet,” Remy huffed out like he was sick off telling people “Sorry, I don't mean to take it out on you. I'm just tired of people asking about England.” He continued with tiredness in his voice. They fell back into silence but it wasn’t an awkward silence, it was more of a comfortable silence. “I guess you want to know why I was crying,” Virgil mumbled under his breath hoping Remy wouldn’t hear so he didn’t have to talk about Roman.
“No shit Sherlock. Honestly babe, you're still my best friend. Now tell me the gossip.” Remy stated in his overdramatic voice. Virgil smiled at how little Remy had changed and how he was still classed as his best friend.
"My boyfriend broke up with me" Virgil answered quickly trying not to seem sad. The brunette looked up at him and, even through his sunglasses, you could tell he was giving Virgil a questioning look. "It was mine and Roman's three year anniversary today and he said he couldn't do this anymore and he was done." the smaller boy said with a lot of sadness in his voice.
"Oh...honey you were way too good for that bully anyway!" he sassily said whilst sipping coffee. Virgil let out a loud huff meaning he didn't agree.  How could he? Roman was the best thing that happened to him since Remy moved away. "He got better after high school."  he said trying to stand up for Roman.
"Sure he did… Anyway... I'm here now so you're no longer allowed to be sad." Remy joked.

The duet sat there talking about everything they missed during the five years Remy was away. Before they knew it hours had passed and the sun had begun to set.  They were the only ones left in the coffee shop so they decided to call it a night and text each tomorrow. They separated ways with joy in their hearts they hadn't had in a long time.

Virgil had got home and face planted his bed. It was at that moment the reality sat in. Roman was no longer with him. For the first time in ages he was in an empty bed. All of a sudden the door was pushed open and a loud purring filled the room. His cat Helix entered the room. Helix always had the tendency to wonder in his room whenever he was feeling lonely. The fluffy gray cat jumped on the bed and started to try and crawl under the thick black blankets.
Virgil lifted the blankets to let the lazy cat under with him. Just as he got comfortable, his phone buzzed. He led out a loud groan and reached for his phone. For some reason, Roman had decided to text him. He decided he should check it in case it was important. It was an drunk text that Virgil couldn’t even understand. He rolled his eyes and made a mental note to change Roman's contact name then threw his phone across the room. He curled up against Helix and drifted to sleep.

 --five years ago--

As the snow fell thickly on the grass outside, the two teenage boys sat in a den made of blankets and pillows watching a movie on the younger ones laptop.
"Are you still awake?" Remy whispered, just loud enough for Virgil to hear but quiet enough not to wake him up if he was asleep.
"Yeah, I can't sleep." The anxious midget sleeply mumbled. Both boys shifted so they were facing eachother. "I'm going to miss you." the brunette sighed, looking into his best friend's eyes. "Then don't go and stay here with me." Virgil mumbled hoping Remy would change his mind.
"Virge... We've talked about this. Going to school in England is a once in a lifetime opportunity and my flight already booked for tomorrow."
The coffee scented teen grumbled.
"I know… I just don't know how I'll survive college without you," Virgil said, curling into a ball."I've never done anything without you before." he continued, on the verge of crying. Remy pulled the crying teen into his arms and tried to comfort him "I know. I'm scared too but we'll be fine" he replied. Virgil cuddled up closer to his friend and they both slowly drifted to sleep hoping they could stay like this forever.
