Chapter 1 "I left? Or did I leave her?"

Hi, Lils here. Just some //*TW*\\ for the story ahead. The whole story has these, I'll still put these on each chapter but I'm going to put some of the more overarching ones here so you know what to expect.

*Colette's POV*

The corridor was dark and the air smelled like death. I wanted to turn back and stay home, but I couldn't stay there for not one more second. "Hurry, Kitty!" I yelled to the girl running behind me. She was slower than me, but she didn't deserve the punishment for my actions.

"You can't run forever, Colette... Eventually, you have to give up and accept your fate." He yelled. Oh no... No no no no no... He's catching up... No... Kitty can't suffer because of me...

"Colette... He getting closer! What do we do?!?!"

I didn't know what to do... I panicked and... Wait... Where did I teleport us to?

"Wrong choice..." A voice behind me sneered. I knew exactly who it was... But no... That's not... That's not how she is... He must have done this... He got her possessed.

"M-mother? Is that you?" I whispered hoping to be wrong. I wasn't unfortunately...

"Don't tell me you're that dull, Colette. That's not how a future queen behaves. Guess I'll have to whip you into shape." 

I froze. I couldn't move. My eyes were fixed upon her weapon. I had experienced what I knew was coming too many times. As she lifted it I winced and instinctively reached up for the freshest scar on my neck... It was still tender...

"Colette... Let me take this beating. You're always the one who gets the brunt of the punishment." Kitty whispered in my ear.

I couldn't let her take it. She didn't remember this, but I let her take it once. I had been haunted by her screams ever since. She wasn't doing that for me again. I'm not worth it. She means the world to me, my twin.

"No" I said strongly so she knew I was serious. "I'm already used to it. I can take it."

"Yeah, but you shouldn't have to!" She protested.

"I'll be fi-" I got cut off as a sharp pain cut into my leg. It took all my strength to not react. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes. But I couldn't- I wouldn't let the demons win.

Another pain across my face, then my right arm, then my left. She whipped me until I was covered in warm, red liquid.

"Oh my god... You... You monster! Look what you did to her!" She gasped angrily. She needed to shut it. She was gonna get in trouble and make the pain all in vain.

"Still staying strong?" She asked ignoring Kitty and rather amused at how I refused to cry.

This isn't strength. If I was strong I'd fight back. I looked my possessed mother in the eyes and said "If you want us to surrender we won't. When you think we're weak, we're just getting warmed up. When you want us to give up we feed on that frustration and grow stronger, determined to not let you win. You are nothing more than a puppet with no reason to fight. We have a reason. And that's why we'll win." I spoke those words hoping they were true. I knew they were true in regards to Kitty...

But I am nothing. I've never been worth more than the gum on the bottom of a shoe. I didn't deserve Kitty's pity. I don't deserve anything or anyone.

"Brave words for a mistake who will soon be corrected." She said to me slyly. She knew I believed that. She knew I couldn't feel anything but hate towards myself. But I wouldn't let her win.

I teleported to the escape pods. I ran into one with Kitty and started getting it ready for departure.

"This craft will leave the kingdom in T-minus 3 minutes" The pod had said. We waited for two and a half minutes before he showed up.

"You won't be going anywhere." He said as he pulled Kitty out of the pod and smashed the controls so I couldn't control the pod. "Not with her at least." He uttered as the pod's doors closed.

My heart sank.

"No! No no no no no no no! Kitty!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. I was banging on the door with all my might. I tried to teleport to her. I tried to teleport her into the pod. Nothing worked. I was about to lose her.

She started getting possessed.

"Arg!" She screamed in pain. Being possessed is an extremely painful experience when you resist. She kept screaming.

"10... 9... 8... 7..." The pod counted down. I was running out of time. I couldn't save her.

"NO!" I shouted one last time before the pod launched and I saw my twin for the last time for a long time.

*Kitty's POV from the beginning of the story*

"Hurry Kitty!" My twin yelled back to me.

I was much slower than her. Which made me wonder why she always put me on a pedestal. I knew she did. We had the same powers, but hers were stronger. We could both do every martial art in the book, but she could do them faster and with more force. I think she pictures the dummies that we practice our fighting on as Father.

She doesn't call him Father of course. She calls him King. That's the only word she uses in reference to him. I know why she does. Everyone knows. But that doesn't stop him from beating her over it.

Colette has a lot of issues because of him. She has this problem where she's her own bully most of the time. She freezes anytime a weapon is pulled out in front of her. She thinks she's not worth anything or anyone, but if she's worthless then I am even more so. I'm much weaker than her and I know it.

"You can't run forever, Colette. Eventually, you have to give up and accept your fate." Father yelled... Oh no, he's gonna kill us! Okay not really, but still!

I yelled to Colette about how close father was. She panicked and teleported to a really, really, super-duper dark and creepy room.

Mother was behind us, but she had been possessed. She was about to whip Colette. I tried to get Colette to let me take the beating. I'm the one who said we should escape from this torture. For her sake of course. I never got beat. Only her since she always refuses to do what is asked of her.

Granted she mostly gets asked to kill innocent people. She absolutely refuses to kill. I and our older sister Minty always did what we were told. Sure it was difficult mentally, but we had to or we would be on the chopping block.

That's why she thinks she's weak. She can't bring herself to kill or even hurt anyone with the skills she has.

I was snapped back to reality when I saw how much bleeding Colette was doing and how much pain she was in.

I screamed at Mother. I called her a monster. Colette gave a heartfelt speech about how we could never be bested. Then once Mother stated her retort Colette teleported us to the pods.

We got one ready for departure and 30 seconds before liftoff Father caught us.

He ripped me out of the pod and put demons all around me. I was getting possessed. I couldn't fight it. I couldn't resist. All I knew was that I had failed my dear, dear twin. I was extremely disappointed in myself.

I heard her screaming for me. She didn't want to lose me. I had been involuntarily screaming. She yelled for me louder and the pod took off. She couldn't stop it and I couldn't stop the demons. Everything went black.

Finally... I knew she couldn't hold out forever. Poor weak Kitty. Can't even repay Colette for everything she's ever done for you. Getting beat and tortured so that you didn't have to. You really are a horrible sister, aren't you?
