Science.. Religion... Neither of these help us to answer the question of whether or not we are alone in the universe. The proof is there, looming right over Nepal of all places. It gave us the answer: We are not alone. But that only left us with so many more questions.
My stay at the Futurescape has been an awakening of sorts. Since my breakup with my girlfriend on Earth, I began to be drawn towards Elsie. Because I'm one of the few who is working with her, we've naturally grown close. I asked her on a date. And because there isn't really a lot to do here recreationally, we ended up snatching some food from the cafeteria and watching Top Gun in my dorm room. With nothing else but the sound of the movie in the background, we got to know each other.
It occurs to me that before that night, I had never really heard her laugh. It's a remarkable and beautiful sound. Her nose wrinkles up, and her lips curl into a brilliant white smile. But I could see everything in her eyes.
This is my home now.
