Nina walked through the door to the apartment she shared with Tom that evening. She shut the door and bolted it.
"Where are you coming from?" Nina heard and her heart beat plummeted.
She had managed to avoid him for a few days and faked sleep when he arrived back drunk because he always ignored her when he thought she was asleep. She had expected the same thing to happen tonight but seemed like life had other plans for her.
"I asked you a question." He sounded drunk, no surprise there.
Nina turned around slowly to face him. He stood a few feet away, a bottle in hand, haggard looking. He had nothing but a pair of briefs on and his hair was sticking out in different directions.
"Work."
"This late?"
"This is the normal time I get back from work." Nina walked past him to the kitchen and Tom watched her as he took a swig from the bottle.
"Where were you today?" She asked.
"What are you, my mother?"
"I just want to know how your day went."
"It was...fun."
Nina frowned at that. He usually said: bad, horrible, terrible, or something of those sorts.
"What did you do?" She cleared out the couple of empty beer bottles from the counter.
"A lot."
She looked at him and waited but he just smiled at her which was unusual. That was a vague answer.
"Ok." He seemed in a good mood today and she wasn't going to do or say anything to ruin that. "I'll just freshen up."
Nina made her way to the bedroom wondering what had happened today to make Tom less angry. Nina stepped into the bedroom and slipped her shoes off at the same thing she reached for the switch and turned the light on. She kept her shoes in the corner and as she reached for the hem of her top, the movement in the bed caught her attention.
Nina screamed as the duvet shifted again. The next thing she saw were leg, toes painted in pretty pink nail polish.
"Can you keep your voice down?" A voice said from beneath the duvet.
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my bed?"
A head peeked out and she spotted dirty blonde hair.
"Your bed?" The girl questioned."Yes."
"Well Tommy brought me here and after the fun we had, he said I could sleep in."
Nina had figured out that much when she spotted her in the bed, but to hear her actually say it; Nina was devastated.
"Well, you should leave." The girl watched Nina for a moment.
"What, like right now?"
"Yes dammit, right this second." She said trying to keep the tears at bay.
She watched as the girl scrambled from the bed and got dressed. She turned away shaking her head.
"Don't you feel ashamed that you're sleeping with someone who's already in a relationship.""He came onto me. If he was the faithful kind, he wouldn't have." She said "I did you a favour."
"Yea, how did you come about that?"
"You should see this as a sign. Fate has a way of working out in our favour even if it's something as terrible as a cheating boyfriend, in the long run it's worth it. Men like him don't deserve women like you."
