Sans's POV
The lab is a hustle of excited energy, people and monsters speaking to each other in hushed tones about some big news that they found. Not quite understanding what's going on, I grab the attention of one of my old lab buddies, Alphys the raptor.
"Hey Sans! Did you hear the big news yet?!"
She excitedly asks me before rambling on and on about nonsense and apologising for being a rambling mess... not that she changed much from when we were in the Underground.
"A-anyway, apparently the scouts made a discovery. A strange rock was found on the mountain that we were trapped under and led to the Underground. It has these strange glowing markings that no-one here has been able to decipher... they are going to send it through to be tested for any kind of mineral that's allowing it to glow like that, but if you ask me, I don't think that it's minerals making it glow... I detect a strong magic radiating from the rock, could it be some kind of spell? And if so, what kind?! Is it deadly? Or is it- oops! Sorry, I'm rambling again"
She sheepishly cuts herself from her train of thought and adjusts her big glasses on her nose. Despite her embarrassment, she makes a good point... the magic used to seal us in the Underground was aimed souly against monsters and would allow humans to pass, that's why Frisk was able to meet us and inevitably set us free.
Would the magic that's radiating from the rock be a dangerous spell? Or a source of power for one? And if so, what is the root of the spell?
Question after question bubbles in my skull, but I'm not getting any answers standing here looking like a lost skeleton. Thanking Al for her useful explanation, I decide to go and get some answers myself.
~~~~ Meanwhile ~~~~
Deep within the Underground, a dark presence waits patiently for the surface dwellers to unintentionally free the demons that lay beneath the Underground that they had been damned to by the Star Child, the girl... her very presence makes every demon"s skin crawl with anger and fear just by knowing how powerful she is. It was her power that kept them trapped here for hundreds of years after all.
In order to keep them here, she blessed a sacred stone with the runes of the old time that had a strong spell of containment. Until the stone is either physically broken or the spell is magically removed,we will remain trapped here in this dark wasteland. However, I can feel that it's not too long a wait now...
The seal will soon be broken.
Sans's POV
The results from the mineral tests came back and it's like Alphys said... there's no minerals that's making the stone glow like it is. So the artifact has been passed down to those who know high-level magic... namely me.
"Be careful with this artifact Sans, we don't know what causes it to be this way... it could be some radiation gig, who knows. Just be careful okay?"
My boss, Dr. Chris, warns me while walking me out of his office with the artifact in a glass safety box. I nod respectfully before winking at him and making a pun about how careful I'll be with the artifact and that I'll bring back a Sans-ational reason for the research I'm about to conduct. Obviously that earned an eye roll from him and snickers from fellow co-workers who were nearby.
In truth, I had no idea how to do research on this object, it's not like I could just sit there and stare at it like it's some animal in a cage and expect it to be interesting. What will be interesting is finding out what the runes on the stone mean, it's glowing symbols must mean something, but it's also not like I have some books on runes lying around (heh heh!).
Ah, might as well go home and try to figure out what's with this weird stone. With that thought in mind, I teleport back home and find myself in the living room... where I'd been lying on the couch a few hours ago. The nice, soft, comfortable couch... I think I'm drooling from the thought of getting to sleep lazily again.
A sudden 'clank!' from my arm snapped me awake from my sleep inducing thoughts and made me remember why I came home in the first place. Looking at the glass box in my arm to the couch and back again, I ultimately decided that maybe a nap was in need before the real research had to commence.
So, after carefully placing the glass box on the floor next to the couch, I fell on the couch cushions and almost instantly fell asleep.
I'm flying? No, floating in a vast nothingness. It's completely dark, yet I can see what's around me.
Looking round, I see thousands of beady eyes staring back at me... full of greed and some type of hunger. I'm not entirely comfortable with beings looking at me like I'm a possible snack, though they wouldn't be able to resist this sexy set of bones (😆😂😂😂)
Suddenly, I can see this hooded figure float around, before coming to stop right in front of me. Eyes a bright crimson with a white rim round it and slits for pupils, the rest of the eye is completely black. His voice is so deep and gruff that I can almost not understand him but his words are clear enough for me to understand.
Destroy the stone,
Set us free,
Kill the Star Child,
And we'll leave you be.
Before I can ask him about this "Star Child" he moves aside and there is a soft glow in the distance that has a heartbeat that echoes throughout the darkness. I can't explain it, but I can feel myself being pulled toward the glow, like it's calling me... it's gentle glow gives off the feeling of security and peace, like I'm safe here and no one will ever be able to hurt me and my loved ones again.
Suddenly, a pair of bright aqua blue eyes open within the light and I'm suddenly engulfed in the light.
《《《《《《《《《《《《《《《
I jolt awake from the strange dream and look down to see that the stone has started to glow a brilliant blue... like the eyes within the light.
