Kye's POV

Have you ever felt that your world has almost, quite literally, fallen apart from one statement?

Yeah, I didn't either.....

At least until I heard the news.

I've seriously been asleep for that long?!

It barely felt like a few minutes to me!!!

How in the hell did time travel so quickly?!

Did I jump the timeliness again?!

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!

I start breaking into a sweat from the shock of this new discovery. Normally, I am able to handle the stress of uncertain situations...

BUT NOT TO THIS EXTENT!!!

"CHILD! You need to calm down and take some deep, slow breaths. Please calm down my child. Listen to my voice."

Toriel has her hands on my shoulders as she speaks to me, trying to get me to calm down and breathe properly. I didn't even realise that I started hyperventilating when I heard the news of what year it was, wow.... time sure does fly!

Taking a deep breath in and holding for a few seconds while closing my eyes seemed to do the trick to fully calm me down. When I reopened my eyes and looked more calm, everyone else seemed to almost breathe a collective  sigh of relief with me. Placing my hands in my lap, I managed to hide them from the others so that they couldn't see they were shaking like leaves in an Autum breeze.

Get it together Kye! You are a princess for pete's sake! Or... were. You should be able to handle this kind of stress without having a panic attack!!

I sigh in defeat before lifting my head in determination, look of finality on my face.

"Okay, I'm okay now.... I think."

I answer a bit unsure, but confident enough to not back away from their stares. They all looked at me shocked before turning to one another in confusion before returning their gaze to me with a question in their minds.

However, before either of them can ask their question... the children decided to make their presence known.

"Good morning!!!" Asriel and Frisk call out in unison while walking down the stairs before spotting the skelebro's and running the rest of the way down the stairs.

"Pappy!!!" Frisk yelled and threw themselves into Papyrus's awaiting hug with a huge smile on their face.

"HUMAN!!! IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE WE'VE BEEN IN EACH OTHER'S COMPANY!"

His voice is back to the loudness it had before we had the discussion a few minutes ago.

I didn't notice that I was slightly smiling at the two of them until my sleeping top was pulled down slightly. Looking down, I see Asriel coming to greet me with a shy smile on his face before opening his arms for me to give him a hug.

Bending down, I pick him up and give him a hug while holding him to my hip. The whole time that he's on my hip, he's smiling with a tiny, cute blush on his monster cheeks.

"Good mornin' Kye! How'd you sleep?"

He asked me while I was still holding him in my arms. For a monster child, he was very light.

"I slept well my furry little friend, how did you sleep?"

He beamed at me when I called him 'friend' and proceeded to tell me of this dream he had and what he did after he woke up.

I smiled at him the whole time he was talking... I couldn't help but feel a bit of nostalgia when he was telling me of the dreams he had. It reminded me so much of when I was a child, telling my mother of the adventures I had in my kingdom and getting to the good bits always got me super excited.

After he told me the whole story, Frisk came up to us and wanted to climb on my back. So, I bent down for her to get on and when I felt the familiar weight on my back and the hands holding onto my shoulders I immediately placed one of my hands to support her bottom while I was still holding onto Asriel on my other arm.

"Onward my noble steed!!! We shall travel through this barren wasteland and off into the sunset where there will be a unicorn awaiting our arrival to take us to a world of doors!"

Feeling like there was a hidden meaning behind that declaration, but leaving it off to a child's imagination I pretended to be a horse for the two of them and 'galloped' around the lounge area making neighing sounds that a horse would make to make it more enjoyable for them.

For the next few minutes, the house was filled with laughter from Frisk and Asriel while Sans, Papyrus and Toriel watched from afar with different looks on their faces. Toriel had a motherly look on her face while Papyrus looked like he wanted in on the fun and Sans had a lazy look... but there was something hidded in his eyes that he could feel was bubbling to the surface.

Sans's POV

Watching her play with the kids like that made my soul thump painfully in my chest with a familiar feeling that I couldn't remember.... which is weird, since I've never felt this way toward anyone.

What's going on with me? It feels like my soul is leaping in my body and painfully banging against my ribcage. Like it wants to be acknowledged now by the person I'm staring at like a weirdo. Is it excitement?  Nah, it's too strong to be excitement... ugh!!! What is this feeling?!?!?!?

It's gonna keep buggin' me till I figure it out. However, this girl is quite a unique soul... wait, SOUL!! What is her soul trait?! Is it even okay to do that here on the surface? I know some humans are afraid of magic and there are magic prohibition areas in the city, but in their houses and with permission it should be fine.

Mustering up the courage I decide to break the playful atmosphere.

"Um, kid, as much as I love watchin' ya play with the kids... I need ta ask ya an important  question."

She stops and looks at me quizzically before nodding and gently getting down on her haunches so Frisk and the Kid can get off her before approaching me slowly, granted we weren't far away from her either... I was just too lazy to move.

As she stands in front of me, looking expectantly at me as if to say 'okay, I'm here now... what do ya want?'.

"Look... there's no easy way to ask this but...."

"You wish to see my soul?"

I quickly looked up and stared into her shiney aqua-blue eyes with complete shock in my sockets.

How'd she-?!

Shaking my head at the thought I just nodded my head and waited for her approval.

"Sans, are you sure?"

Toriel places a gentle hand on my shoulder and looks at me with concern in her eyes. I just nod in reply before turning back to the young woman in front of me.

"Okay, I don't mind. Just, don't do anything too drastic to it please."

She replied and I couldn't have felt more relieved that she agreed. I would have felt more suspicious of her, had she denied... but I would have respected her decision either way.

"Okay, I promise I won't do anything to your soul.. I just want to see it, that's all."

With a confident nod of approval, she stood in a more relaxed posture and closed her eyes.

I reached out my hand and I felt a tug on my fingers signalling that I was gripping the soul with my magic, but when I pulled to draw it out....

Nothing came out of her chest.
