Sometime during their talk of revenge, Yasu surprisingly fell asleep. The warmth between the two men beside him and their hold on him made him feel comfortable and safe.
Because Yasu was the first one to wake up, he was able to stare at Shiro and Ren while they slept. Although Shiro didn’t look too different, his voice had changed. No longer was it soft and calming. His throat had been damaged from the lynching. His voice was more scratchy and low.
As for Ren his scars on his face made him more intimidating. It had ruined his handsome face, however to Yasu, his scars added more character and made him more handsome. The major change in Ren was his aura. The aura around him was menacing and unnerving. Which could cause people to avoid him.
To Yasu’s surprise Ren opened his eyes. Their eyes locked on to each other in the semi dark room. The sun was beginning to rise and light filtered through the curtains. They could barely see each other, but with Yasu’s night vision, he knew that Ren was staring right back at him.
“Can’t sleep?” Ren asked softly as his hand came up to pat Yasu’s cheek.
Yasu’s soft cheek made Ren want to touch him more. But he forced himself to just cup Yasu’s cheek as if Yasu was a precious person.
“It’s time for morning training.” Yasu whispered.
Ren smiled and nodded his head once.
“Sleep.” Ren ordered Yasu. “You’ll be traveling for a long time and need your strength. It’s alright if you miss a day of training.”
“What about you?”
“I’m the General. It’s alright if I miss a day or two.” Ren told him.
Ren didn’t want to leave the bed. He didn’t want to see Yasu leave. He wanted to keep Yasu by his side, just like Shiro. He had fallen for Yasu the moment he met Yasu all those years ago. Knowing that he was alive and sleeping in the same bed as him and Shiro, made him feel a sense of peace and happiness.
He also knew that he would have to slowly make Yasu depend on him more and more. So that Yasu wouldn’t be able to leave their side. He would have to woo Yasu and make him fall in love with not only him, but with Shiro as well.
Shiro and Ren had long spoken about their future. They had confessed that if there was someone who they wanted to spend their life with, it would have been Yasu. At the time, they thought Yasu was dead so they didn’t speak about it again.
But now that Yasu is alive and came back to them, Ren wouldn’t let Yasu go. Even if Yasu had someone dear to his heart, it doesn’t mean that Yasu can’t have more men dear to his heart. Preferably Ren and Shiro.
As for Gin, Ren would have to judge for himself if Gin is worthy to walk the same road as Yasu. If he was someone good for Yasu, then he and Shiro could accept Gin into their lives as well.
But if he wasn’t then Ren could drive him away. If worst comes to worst, he could kill Gin and make it look like an accident. For not only his and Shiro sake, but for Yasu as well. He couldn’t let Yasu experience another tragedy.
Surprisingly Yasu fell asleep again, when he woke up he was the only person in bed. As Yasu sat up, he realized that Shiro was sitting beside the bed reading a book. Although the book was open, his eyes had been on Yasu the whole time.
“Morning.” Yasu said as he smiled at Shiro.
“Morning.” Shiro said back. “Breakfast is already set out on the table. When you’re ready, come out to eat.”
Shiro stood up and left the room. Before he closed the door, he made sure to stop and stare at Yasu for a few moments before closing the door tight.
Yasu stretched his back and got out of bed. Once he was done with his morning routine, he left the bedroom and stopped immediately.
The table was full and setup with several dishes. It looked as if he was attending a banquet instead of a simple military breakfast.
“Morning.” Yasu said as he looked at the two men who stood beside Ren.
“Morning.” Ren said back as he pulled out a chair for Yasu to sit in.
Yasu stepped forward and sat down. He waited until everyone sat down as well before questioning who the two men were. To Yasu’s disappointment, Ren didn’t introduce the two mystery men until after they finished their breakfast. The whole time they ate in silence.
Once the table was clean and the five of them were alone again, Ren began speaking to Yasu.
“This is Ken and Kei.” Ren introduced to Yasu.
Ken looked to be in his late 30’s. He had an average face and didn’t have any distinct features to him. He had a medium build and tan skin.
Kei on the other hand was the opposite of Ken. Kei was tall, slim and sturdy. He had a handsome face that attracted attention. Because of this, he usually wore a mask. He had the kind of face that one couldn’t tell if he was young or old. He could be in his 20’s or in his late 30’s.
“They are my people that I have been by my side since I was young.” Ren told Yasu. “They will be your personal guards from now on. Should you need to send word to me or Shiro, they will be able to send your message.”
Yasu wanted to turn down Ren’s generous gift, however the look that Ren gave Yasu made him close his mouth and accept Ren’s arrangement.
Yasu could only sigh heavily and nod his head.
“Very well.” Yasu said as he stood up and bowed. “Please take care of me.”
Ken and Kei stood up at the same time and bowed to Yasu.
“It is our duty to protect the young lord.” Ken said. “Please take care of us.”
The five of them left Ren’s quarters and walked to the horse barn. Yasu’s horse along with two more horses were already saddled and ready for them.
Ken and Kei got on their horses and waited for Yasu. Yasu stood in front of Ren and Shiro for a moment before embracing them quickly before letting them go. Since meeting them again, he was filled with mixed emotions.
He was happy that they were alive and living well. He was happy that they found companionship with each other. Yet, there was a hint of bitterness inside of his heart when he saw Ren and Shiro together.
Looking at Ren and Shiro reminded him of his Dad and Father. Being with them made him feel safe and protected. That sense of comfort was something he longed for. But he knew that being with them was something that could not happen.
He had promised himself that he would be loyal dog and not a bitch in heat. Because of this, his heart felt bitter knowing that being with them would be impossible.
“See you soon.” Yasu said as he smiled at them. “It’s good to see you both again.”
“We’ll contact you when we find any information.” Ren said.
“Keep in contact with us, even if it doesn’t involve that man.” Shiro said. ‘That man,’ that Shiro was referring to was Hiraga.
“Alright.” Yasu said before getting on his horse. “Until next time.”
“Safe travels.” Shiro said while reaching out to hold Ren’s hand.
“Be safe too.” Yasu told them.
Ren and Shiro watched as Yasu rode out of the military barracks with Ken and Kei. Now that they’ve found Yasu again, it renewed their motivation to keep on finding evidence to reveal the evil deeds of the Third Prince.
