Kei bowed once to Yasu and quickly left to pass on his orders to Ken and Gin. Yasu sat inside of his office, no longer wanting to deal with matters relating to the teahouse. Instead his mind kept wandering to that fateful day he lost everything and everyone he loved.
The sky grew dark along with the office that Yasu sat in. The darkness deeply reflected Yasu's feelings and thoughts. No one disturbed him or intruded into his office without his word. Kei stood outside of the office, listening and waiting for Yasu's orders.
Gin had stopped by several times throughout the day to check in on Yasu, however every time he asked Kei about Yasu, Kei would only shake his head no to indicate that Yasu has not made a move nor spoken since his last order to check on Kazuki's background. Gin could only sigh and check back once again. He too didn't want to disturb Yasu unless it was necessary.
By the time Yasu came out of the office, Black Fox Teahouse had long closed down for the night and everyone had already eaten and turned in for the night. Kei, who had stood outside of the office was now replaced with Gin.
Without a word, Yasu immediately hugged Gin and buried his face in Gin's chest. Yasu took deep breaths, familiarizing himself with Gin's scent, to calm himself down. His mind was a mess with chaotic thoughts. He was so close to throwing away everything that he slowly and carefully planned for just to rashly hack down Hiraga to satisfy his need for justice. If he did this, he would feel better, but the people would never know how much of a monster Hiraga is.
"Tell me something good. Anything that doesn't have to do with that person." Yasu mumbled in Gin's embrace.
They both knew who 'that person' was without saying his name out loud.
"I went to the market today and found something interesting that you will like." Yasu told him.
"What?" Yasu whispered only loud enough so only the two of them could hear.
"Come." Gin softly said as he held Yasu tightly to his side as they made their way back to their house. "It's a surprise."
Yasu's lips slowly broke into a gentle smile and followed Gin's pace. They made their way through the garden with only the soft moonlight to guide them through the pathways. They have walked through the pathways many times and knew the pathways back and forth without using a lamp to light the way.
The loud cicadas chirping, drowned out the silence between them. Although the silence between them was comfortable, it also made Gin worried. He didn't know how to bypass the barriers Yasu has placed around himself. Because of these barriers, there were times that Gin didn't know Yasu's thoughts and couldn't share Yasu's worries with him. How could he be a reliable person by Yasu's side, if he couldn't break through Yasu's protective barriers and help carry some of his burdens?
"What did you get for me at the market?" Yasu said with an excited voice. The closer they were to their house, the more he anticipated his surprise gift.
"Just wait and see." Gin said as he kissed Yasu's head. He pushed down his worries to the side and concentrated on the man he held tightly in his embrace.
"Tell me." Yasu poutedly asked while tugging on Gin's sleeve.
"We're almost home. You'll see your gift once we're inside." Gin denied him once again.
Yasu scrunched his nose and turned his face towards Gin's chest once more. Instead of burying his head to Gin's chest to breathe in his scent, Yasu took a big and hard bite.
"Ahhhh!" Gin cried out as he felt pain zap through his body. As quickly as it came, it quickly left as Yasu ran away. "I never thought you could be such a brat!"
Yasu turned around to stick out his tongue out at Gin before continuing to run back to their house as if he didn't do anything wrong.
"Come back here you brat!" Gin called out as he ran after Yasu. The wide grin on his face was a tall tale sign that he wasn't really mad at Yasu's actions, instead it was an indulgent and loving look.
Gin watched as Yasu ran further and further away from him. The grin on his face slowly disappeared as his steps slowed down to a stop. His hands became fists by his side before he released the tension inside of himself. He needed to do more so he could tie Yasu closer to his side. He wanted to ensure his place inside of Yasu's heart as soon as possible. Why did he feel as if the closer he was to Yasu, he could feel the distance between them become further and further?
"Gin?" Yasu shouted from the doorway. "Aren't you going to give me my present?"
Gin stared at the young man waiting for him. The light behind him casted a shadow on his features, however Gin could slightly make out Yasu's shining eyes and mischievous smile.
"Hurry up! What's taking you so long?" Yasu asked as he placed his hands on his hips.
It was then that Gin realized that no matter how far the distance between them might be, Yasu would always turn back and wait for him. The smile that was gone, came back just as fast as he ran towards the man who made his heart beat faster and louder. The man who saved him and became the most important person in his life. The man who he will do anything for and die for. The man who he holds close to his heart and in his arms. The man who he pledged his life to protect and cherish. The man who stood by the door, waiting for him to catch up so they could go home together.
