Yasu sat inside of the personal room of the Four Seasons Teahouse, the table clear of dishes, but a new pot of tea replaced the old one. His thoughts lost within his mind as his fingers tapped the table.
There was a light knock on the door, bringing his attention back to reality.
“Young Master, it’s me.” Kei said through the door.
“Come in.”
Yasu had sent Kei to follow Kazuki’s servant Kuma. Their constant surveillance on Kazuki was fruitless, however a two weeks ago, Kazuki began making small movements that drew Yasu’s attention. He had sent his personal servant, Kuma to Hima.
Why would the head guard for the Third Prince send his personal servant to Hima when he had no business nor connections in Hima? The report sent back stated that Kuma had been frequently visiting two businesses while he was in Hima.
The first place of business was a small auction house near the center of town. The second was an upscale courtesan house located in the scholar’s district on the south side of Hima. The courtesan house was hidden in plain sight and no one would know what it was unless they were a member. The members did not enter through the front gate, but through the back gate.
Why would a servant of Kazuki visit an auction house and a courtesan house every day unless he is helping his master oversee a new business adventure until they can find a suitable manager. Kazuki would only send his most trusted servant to handle this new business adventure because these businesses meant a great deal to him. If it meant a great deal to Kazuki, then it meant a greater deal to Hiraga.
Finally with a chance to catch someone close to Kazuki, thus in turn catching Kazuki once it was the right time. Yasu would finally have someone close to Hiraga to be his spy. Wouldn’t it be great that someone close to Hiraga, someone who he once loved and trusted the most, turned against him and became a traitor.
But to get to that point, they first needed Hiraga and Kazuki to misunderstand one another more and more. By driving a wedge between them, Kazuki would lose his love and trust in Hiraga. The best tool to use against Hiraga, is a scorned lover. One who has stood by him since he was a child. One who has guarded over him for years. One who overlooked and accepted his faults. One who shared the same bed as him for the past five years.
Yasu smiled wickedly as he watched Kei close the door behind him. This was the chance they have all been waiting for.
Kei reached into his sleeve and pulled out a small, rolled up piece of paper. Yasu unrolled the paper and read the contents inside of it. Once he finished, he began to chuckle and crush the note in his hand.
“Go.” Yasu ordered Kei. “We have his weakness within our grasp. Now it’s time to exploit it.”
Kei bowed once to obey Yasu’s order and left Yasu alone. Yasu threw the crumpled piece of paper into his tea cup and watched as the tea slowly dyed the paper. The words on it were washed away and the paper began to disintegrate. Within a moment’s time, everything was back to normal, as if Yasu had been alone the whole time.
Those around Hiraga were held to a strict code of conduct, causing Yasu’s surveillance on them to slow down. It had taken them months of watching and waiting for them to find someone close to Hiraga to mess up so they could blackmail them into betraying Hiraga. No one around Hiraga made any big mistakes that could be used against them. Which then made Yasu think to begin watching over the servants and trusted aides of the young lords.
If he wanted to catch the biggest fish, he first needed to catch the smaller fishes first. Then use the small fish to catch the medium size fish. Then use the medium size fish to catch the biggest fish. This time the small fish he caught was Kuma.
“Who would have thought that the small fish would be a gambling addict?” Yasu whispered as he looked outside the window.
His eyes caught the sight of a familiar carriage. The emblem on the carriage was of Ren’s family crest. The only person that Ren would let inside of his personal carriage would be Shiro.
The carriage stopped outside of the Four Seasons Teahouse and Shiro alighted without help. Shiro looked up, towards the private room and saw the man who he dreamt about for the past five years, looking back at him. Smiling widely he raised his arm and waved excitedly at him.
Seeing Shiro smile and wave at him made him cough as an excuse and turn his head to look away. The bright smile and wave of Shiro made him look innocent and charming.
“Don’t think he’s cute.” Yasu chided himself. “He’s not cute.”
