I backed up from the window in disbelief. It looked too real for me to just imagine it and I knew for a fact I was not going crazy. I could feel my heart pounding in my ears as the eerie feeling still lingered. Not long after, footsteps approached the kitchen and my head snapped to its direction, "Woah, seen a ghost?" Jordan mocked as he went to grab milk from the fridge.
"No but there was this girl near our driveway that looked hella weird," I spoke as he continued to pour milk into his bowl. "Weird in what way?"
"She had red eyes Jordan! As in her whole eyes were red including the pupils!" He suddenly stopped pouring milk into the bowl and made eye contact. We held the gaze for a second or two before he cleared his throat, "You're probably imagining things, Tai. I mean your sleep pattern is pretty fucked," he shrugged it off, putting the milk back into the fridge.
"Don't bullshit me Jordan, I know what I fucking saw. How many times have I came up with something crazy like this? Exactly, this will be the first. I'm not imagining it. She looked me dead in the eyes and then disappeared!" I scanned his demeanour, he looked hesitant avoiding eye contact every once in a while. He knew something.
"You saw her too?"
"No, I think you need to sleep it off-"
"Don't you dare make me sound crazy. The way you're acting is like you're hiding something. Do you know her Jordan?"
"No, she's probably some local crackhead, maybe that's why her eyes are red."
"That's one hell of drugs to make your iris a crimson red colour Jordan. What are you... hiding? You know I'm smart to see through the bullshit so spill!"I gritted my teeth feeling frustrated that he could even think I'll accept his bullshit excuses. He pulled out his phone and began to type. I was about to lose it just when my phone buzzed. I pulled out my phone and saw a text he sent me.
Ok, I'll tell you later. Just meet me at the local park at 9.
I furrowed my eyebrows, confused about why he couldn't tell me now.
Why can't you just tell me now?
It's not the right place. Just trust me on this one
"Ok fine, see you in a bit, "I placed my phone back in my pockets before heading to my room.
These last few days, time felt like it was going slow yet fast. It felt as if time was on pause and there was nothing I could do to speed it up. Yet all these events had my mind racing as if I was running against time, leading me here, staring at the clock, waiting for it to strike nine so I could possibly uncover the truth. Finding the missing puzzles that could possibly answer the questions to every weird events that has been happening.
The hand stroke 8:45.
I grabbed my jacket and made my way towards the front door. I walked down the streets until the lightly dimmed park came into view. I sat on one of the swings that faced the dense trees at a distance. Around sometime later, the swing beside me began to swing and I was greeted by my older brother. "So spill. Why couldn't you tell me in the house on whatever it is." I asked.
"Have you not noticed how our house is filled with cameras and microphones?" He looked ahead as I shook my head. I mean yeah I knew there were some in the driveway and garage but not in the actual house.
"Wow, dad must be really tight on security."
"It's not just that. I heard him talking over the phone one night back in London. One of the reasons we moved out here was because of grandad's disappearance. Vancouver was the last place he went before he fell off the grid."
