Prologue

Her heart pounded like a frenzied animal as she ran through the dense trees. The thick fog, that hung heavy and still, now dispersed into faded tendrils in the flight of what was to come.

Her runs were muffled by the velvet ground, her breaths coming in short gasps. The dark canopy, impenetrable and suffocating, seemed to grow thicker by the second.

Clutching her leg, she gritted her teeth against the pain, her pulse throbbing in her ears. The pounding of her heart grew louder, drowning her surroundings.

A few moments later, dim lights flickered in the distance, beckoning like beacons of hope. Just as another foot slammed the damp ground, a heavy force collided with her, throwing her off course.

Her screech pierced through the darkness, echoing through the trees. Her body hurtled through the air, limbs flailing, until she collided with thick Oak. A sickening crunch filled the air as she hit the trunk and the world became a standstill.

As she crumpled to the ground, her body wracked with pain, a deadly silence fell over the scene. The rustling of leaves died down, leaving only the sound of her ragged breathing.

A low growl rumbled in the distance, and the ground beneath her shook. The sound of her heartbeat was now eclipsed by the sound of the creature's approach.

With a jolt, she realized that she was no longer alone. Her eyes widened when she met the creature's gaze. The grim sight paralysed the poor girl in fear. Its eyes glowed like fiery embers, burning with a fierce hunger. Its breath was hot and meaty, like the stench of death itself.

As it loomed over her, she felt a lump in her throat. Its claws glinted in the dim light, sharp and deadly. Launching its claws in the air, her eyes desperately shut awaiting her deadly fate...
