A few days went by after Jay's party. Taitu's small antics were now the talk of the school. Whether it was good or bad there was one thing for sure, more people were curious about the new girl.
"Hey what are you doing later ?" Taitu felt a tug on her sleeve and was then greeted with pearly whites and deep brown eyes.
"Got nothing planned, why?" She went back to putting books in her locker as he continued to talk.
"I was wondering if we could hang out," he shrugged as he adjusted his tie. Jay Kingsley stood about seven inches taller than Taitu. He had a great physique for football and a strong drive for ambition and success which made him fit for the team's captain.
"Look if it was about the kiss I'm sorry if I came on to you."
"No, I didn't mind that kiss. It...was good. You're a beautiful girl Taitu, and I really want to get to know you more."
"Listen, Jay," Taitu crossed her arms after shutting her locker. "I'm flattered but I just see you more as a friend. I don't want to give the wrong impression."
"It's cool I get it. I'm cool on still being friends," he shrugged. They both headed to mechanics. Taitu pulled her phone out and read the message Elijah had just sent. He was going to be out of town for a few days once again to handle his family business. Brook had a doctor's appointment and Jordan had a basketball trip; she was really alone for the day... well she thought until she noticed Jay beside her.
"So what do you have in mind, sir?" She looked ahead at the board.
"What do you mean?"
"Well you asked what I was doing later on today, so what do you have in mind?"
"I don't know. What do you want to do?" He shrugged.
"I asked first. "
"Have you ever been to the Junkyard?" Taitu cringed at the name as Jay laughed, "It's not an actual Junkyard, it's a place where there's food places, arcades, golf, and activities," Jay continued to talk as Taitu began to contemplate the idea, "Oh don't worry it's not a date," he cleared his throat.
"Oh I wasn't thinking that don't worry", she nervously laughed back.
"So eight?"
"Yeah, eight sounds good, you don't mind If Brooklyn tags along."
"Oh-uh nah that's fine."
"Cool," She nodded back before proceeding to give him a pick-up address. The school day came to end and the Lawson's house was empty. A note was left on the counter by her father, he was out of town for a couple of days. The job was very demanding. Taitu contacted her mother, she will be home later in the evening. She proceeded to text Brooklyn and asked if she was free to hang out this evening.
Taitu frowned when she noticed her father's office was slightly open. He never left it open. Instinctively, she pushed it open and flicked on the lights. The dark place lit up with paper scattered on the desk. She noticed a camera screwed in the ceiling's corner and pointed at the door from the other side of the room. It was new, it was never there before as she remembered. luckily it was not running.
Her curiosity piqued, she walked to her family portrait and ran her fingers along the wall until she felt the slight metal leaver. Pushing it upwards with the tips of her nails, the bookshelf to her right shifted revealing the dark spiral staircase. Turning on her phone torch, she descended into the unknown.
The flashlight guided her path. A small switch was found at the foot of the stairs. Turning the lights on, the cold room brightened revealing arrays with all sorts of different kinds of gadgets. She scanned the cage until one particular gun caught her eye. The handle had very intricate detail. She held it with such ease. It felt natural in her hand. Her mind flashed back to the girl with the red eyes. She had a feeling it will not be the last time she will see her. Removing the magazine of the gun, she counted the ten sharp silver bullets aligned perfectly.
