Dan's POV
"Complete."
We looked at each other and laughed.
Look at him. My quirky little Phil was sitting right across from me, smiling and enjoying himself. I felt so lucky.
"That was a bit creepy."
He said, chuckling.
"I think it was just proof of our telepathic connection."
I replied.
He paused before continuing.
"It's true though. I know it sounds awfully sappy, but god, my life was such a mess before I met you. I never thought I'd be able to pick myself back up. But you helped me so much. I hope you know how much that means to me."
My face flushed at his kind words.
"Oh, Phil, I-"
I was cut off by the waiter.
"Are you two gentlemen ready for your check?"
I looked up at him.
"Oh... Y-yeah sure."
"Alright, I'll have that to you in just one second."
I returned my gaze to Phil and grinned.
"What were you saying?"
"Oh... I uh... Nothing..."
He gave me a smirk.
"Dan, you were saying something. Kindly continue."
I stuttered at my loss for words but then just looked into his eyes and said it.
"You mean a lot to me too. I don't know where I'd be without you... I... I just... Yeah."
He smiled lightly.
"C'mon, it's freezing outside, we'd best get home before it starts snowing."
We stood up and walked to the door but soon discovered it was far too late. Fat snowflakes cascaded down to the ground in a torrent of powdery white fluff.
"Oh, fantastic, I bet it'll be just lovely walking home in this."
Phil said, looking up at the shining moon through the snow.
I know it was weird, but snow always made me feel like a little kid again. I wanted to run out in it and dance with my best friend, catching cold snowflakes on my tongue. But I restrained myself, and nodded in agreement as we headed out into the night.
We walked side by side, staring up at the bright city lights and buildings washed in what seemed like an endless wonderland of white. It was beautiful. Then I looked to my side. Phil was looking straight ahead, his blue eyes shining in wonder. His hair whipped around in the wind, causing him to make a scrunchy face whenever it got in his eyes. He was beautiful.
We came up to this restaurant building with an outside portion, as there were tables and chairs outside, and a string of lights glowing bright against the night sky strung around the top of the establishment.
I slowed down to look. It was incredible how just one string of lights and some roses made me smile so much.
"Phil. Hold on."
"Huh?"
I walked to the center under the lights. It snowed harder.
"Come here."
I ushered him over to where I was standing.
"Isn't it amazing? Look at how the lights contrast with the sky. Look at how the snowflakes make everything seem so cheerful."
He looked at me with confusion, but then gazed up at the sky. His eyes lit up and he smiled hugely.
"You're right."
Looking over at him, the scene I was observing became ten times more amazing. The lights. The sky. The snow. And Phil.
I slipped my arm around his waist. It was odd. I'd never done it before. But I was just so happy to be there with him that I couldn't help but pull him closer to me.
He didn't seem to mind a bit. Rather, he draped his arm around my shoulder before resuming our journey back home.
What lovely snowflakes.
