*Dan's POV*

Turning back around, I noticed Phil wasn't where he had been standing before.

"Phil?"
I called out.

No response. And no sight of him anywhere.

"PHIL?"
I yelled a bit louder.

My heart picked up and thumped loudly in my chest. I was starting to panic.

"PHIL?? WHERE ARE YOU??"

Spinning around, I searched the other side of the road. No Phil.

My hands began to shake and my body trembled. Not just because of the cold.

Pulling out my phone, I called Phil and waited impatiently.

"D-DAN!!!"

I heard an angry shout and the faint rev of an engine.

"PHIL WHERE ARE YOU??"
More muffled voices shouted and screamed in the background. I heard Phil's voice one last time before the line went dead.

"DAN, I LOVE YOU!!!"

And then nothing.

Going into full panic mode, I dialed 911 with shaking fingers.

"911, what is your emergency?"
A calm, female voice came through the receiver.

"H-hi, my name is Daniel Howell and I think someone kidnapped my boyfriend. I was standing here with him, turned away for a second, and now he's gone."

"Okay, sir, what is your current location?"

"I'm on the corner of Fourth and Fraymond Street, right across the street from Dana's coffee shop.

"Alright. Is this where you were when he disappeared?"

"Yes. I called him, and heard muffled shouting... A-and the rev of an engine...? I think...?"

"What's his name?"

"Phillip Lester."

I heard the click of typing on a keyboard.

"Okay, sir, is there any other helpful information you can offer us?"

"Uh... He's relatively tall, with short black hair and big blue eyes..."

I felt tears well up in my eyes at the thought of Phil's beautiful eyes.

The operator questioned me for a few more moments before telling me to "get home and try to stay calm". Which I knew wasn't going to happen. I had never felt such an intense fear in my entire life.

I think the one thing humans fear most is the unknown. Some are scared of the dark, because no one knows what could be lurking inside. Some fear ghosts and demons, because they have yet to realize what will such things can do.

But the fear I was feeling in those moments was by far the most intense, soul-wrenching fear that had ever come over me. Because not only was the most important thing in the world to me gone, but also because I didn't have a fucking clue where or why or how.

So I lay on my couch, clutching a pillow tightly to my chest, forcing air in and out of my lungs at dangerous speeds.

I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.

My face still wet from tears, and my ragged breathing the only sound I could hear, the phone began to ring.

I practically shot off of my spot on the couch, tossing the pillow to the side, and nearly tripping over the chair Phil knocked over the night before.

Grabbing my phone off the counter, I saw it was my mum.

"Hello?"
My voice came out even weaker and more pathetic than I had expected.

"Hi sweetie. Can I talk to you for a quick second?"

"Yeah."

She took a deep breath before speaking again.

"Dan... Have... Have you seen your father today by any chance?"

"N-no..."

"Neither have I... He's been gone since this morning and I was just a bit curious-"

"Oh my god..."
I whispered.

Everything clicked. Who was the one person who was horribly psychotic and blinded by hate for me to kidnap the love of my life?

I think you know the answer.
