"Mum, look!" Heerin's younger self was excitedly calling for her mum. After a few tries, she can finally stood up on her own.
A warm motherly smile spread across her mum's face. "What a fast learner!" Her mum exclaimed and went to embrace her in a tight hug, poking her left dimple. Heerin giggled.
"Where's dad?" She asked. She was grinning from ear to ear. However, upon receiving no replies from her mum, her cheery smile was replaced with a curious look. She tucked onto her mum's shirt, staring. "Where's he?"
A loud, ear piercing ringing sound encores through the room. Heerin jumps from her sleeping position. Beads of sweats trickling down her forehead. Her heart rate is faster than ever. "Mum. Dad" she mumbles in a low tone. Her voice slightly cracks.
Without her realizing, a tear successfully escapes her eye, rolling down her cheek. It is cold, but why is she sweltering as if it's stifling heat. Heerin shrugs out of the sheet to grab a cup of water. As she did, she feels her legs trembling — barely support her weight. She falls back on the bed. Struggling, Heerin holds onto the bed table and tries to stand for the second time.
Just why is it so painful to be forgotten?
Heerin walks to her door slowly, keeping her mind off distractions. Drinking a cup of plain water is the only thing that can calm her down at times like this. Her shaky hands grab a hold on the glass carefully and pour herself the water. She drinks like as if she's been dehydrated for years. Only an empty glass is left in just a few milliseconds.
It's too early for college as Heerin heads back to her bedroom. Pulling the sheet till it reaches her chest, she tries to fall back to sleep. Tossing and turning, but it's no use. Her eyes are still wide open.
