VICTOR

The next morning I had woken up before her and carefully got out of the bed, and put on my boxers to head out into the kitchen and start cooking her some breakfast. Although, when looking in the fridge, I had noticed that I forgot to go shopping for some food. So I grabbed my keys and hurried down to the market a few blocks away from here to get some things.

While checking out, I noticed I had gotten a message from my sister asking where I was at. I told her and she told me that she had noticed Saige was upset.

I didn't mean for her to be upset, I was hoping to surprise her and get back in time before she awoke and already have breakfast ready. I guess I didn't think about in case she did wake up.

When I got back to the house, I set the bags down onto the counter and firstly made my way into the bedroom where I see she's finishing straightening her hair in the bathroom mirror and I walk up behind her, wrap my arms around her waist, kiss the side of her neck and smile at her in the mirror.

"Morning beautiful." I tell her.

"Good morning." She smiles back at me.

"I'm sorry I didn't leave you a message or tell you about where I was going." I tell her.

She turns to look at me and shrugs.

"It's okay. I mean, at first I thought you had left me again but then Maritza told me she had just received a message at where you were." She says.

"I promise, from here on out, I will always be the first thing you see when you wake up." I tell her as I gently push a few strands of hair behind her ear.

"Okay." She smiles.

We lean in and give each other a quick kiss then start heading out towards the living room.

"So what are we going to do today?" Maritza asks as I finish up breakfast and we all sit down to eat.

"I don't know." I shrugged and then we heard a knock at the door.

We all looked at each other trying to figure out who that could be and not trusting it, I grabbed the gun I had in the drawer from the the table by the door where we all put our things on when we come inside.

"You better open this door son!" My dad says assertively.

I quickly lock the gun and place it back in the drawer before opening the door.

"Dad! Mama!" I greet them.

"This isn't a friendly visit." Mom says as they walk inside.

"We need to speak with all of you. Except she needs to leave." My dad says while looking at Saige.

"No. Whatever it is, she stays." I tell them as I walk up to her holding her hand.

Both my parents look at us and smile but quickly shake their heads disappointed.

"Son, what have you gotten yourself into?" Father asks.

"What do you mean?" I ask while playing dumb.

"Do not play stupid with me." He says. "We got a visit from Lolita's father. He told us everything. Including a debt you have to pay in order for your mama and I to keep our restaurant." He says with his arms crossed over his chest.

I look down at the floor because I feel too ashamed to look at them and not to mention I feel broken hearted to see how upset they look.

"I know how it looks. I have no excuse for signing my life to the devil practically but, you both wanted a restaurant. You had sacrificed everything to bring us here and away from the other side of our familia. It was the only way I thought I could help so that you both could live your dream and didn't have to sacrifice anymore or struggle to pay the bills with two jobs." I admit.

"Victor, that was never your responsibility." My mother says. "Your father and I knew it wouldn't be easy to give a better life to you and your sister. But it was better than what we had to live with back at home. Just leaving our home and everyone we ever knew, besides your grandmother and a few other relatives, was a struggle. However, just knowing that the reward in the end would be for you both to live your dreams and become whatever you wanted to be, that was our dream. It was bigger than the restaurant. No parent wishes to see their children suffer." My mother explains.

I suddenly start to feel my eyes begin to blur as they fill up with tears that are on the brim from falling down my face.

"I'm sorry to have disappointed you both." I tell them.

I next feel my mothers hands place on my face as she lifts my head up to look at her.

"Now you listen to me. We were very hurt, yes, that you had felt you had to do what you did. But we will always love you no matter what." She says with tears in her eyes.

"We love you son. She's right. And as far as Lolita's father goes, I can probably have everything taken care of." My father says.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

My parents look at one another and then back at me.

"Your uncle Lorenzo, high in the Cartel, they know each other and if there is one person Lolita'a father fears more than anything and anyone in this world, it is him. Now I haven't spoken with him in a long time, but don't worry. Things will be okay." My father finishes with a smile.

"In the meantime, you all need to go some place safe." Mother says.

"What do you mean? I thought you just said everything will be alright?" I asked now feeling confused.

"It will be but things will get worse before they get better. Just please do as you're told. And especially, protect her." My mom says the last part, looking at Saige.

"What? Why?" She asks.

"Because they will use you to get to him. Not to mention....well, let's just say things will get even more bad because of who you are." My mom says.

"Because I'm..." Saige began.

She didn't have to finish her sentence for us all to know what she meant. So we all nodded our heads in agreement and then our father handed us all a bag.

"What's this?" I asked.

"It's money and a few other things. In case things go bad." He says.

"What do you mean?" I asked feeling as though there was something they weren't telling us.

"There are things we never told you kids. To protect you. But because we know how these things turn out usually, we don't want any of you in the middle of this. So take that, then when you get to the address that's written in there, call us. Also, there will be a key and inscribed on it, is the a set of numbers. Those will be what you need to open a safe that is in the house. In that safe, is more than enough money to help take care of you all for the rest of your lives." My father finishes.

"Mama? Papa?" Maritza began with tears in her eyes. "What are you saying?" She asks.

"We will explain later but, you kids have to go. Pack what you can and leave." She says. "We love you." She says.

Both of them then walk up to us and gives us hugs and kisses goodbye and then they leave. We all remain standing in the same place without ever moving, just looking at the door and trying to think about what the hell had just happened.
