Los Angeles, 1995

"Kayden, come on!" I heard my roommate, Derek, shout from the other side from my bedroom door. I groaned slightly, sitting up and rubbing my eyes. I glanced at the clock, which read about eleven in the morning, and sighed before slipping out of bed and took a look into my full body length mirror, taking in my groggy appearance.

My chin-length black hair was disheveled, sticking out everywhere and there was barely noticeable bags under my dark brown eyes, signifying my lack of sleep. my muscle shirt and sweatpants were both winkled, though I never really cared about that.

"Hurry up!" snapped Derek. "Your going to be late for that day out with your little brother and his friend!"

"What, do you have a girl coming over?" I questioned as I began to change.

"Yeah, that one brunet from my work."

I shook my head, pulling my jeans up before slipping on my Back to the Future shirt and short sleeved plaid shirt that I left unbuttoned. Once I got my hair under control, I walked out and Derek was leaning against the wall, waiting.

"What are you trying to do, make sure guys don't like you?" Derek teased me, making me roll my eyes.

"Shut up Derek. I'm going there to hang out with John, not to try to pick up guys."

"Just trying to help my lovable gay roommate."

I pushed his shoulder, giving him a look before walking down the hall and down stairs. "Also, no, I won't need a ride. I'm taking the bus."

"Be careful!" Derek called after me.

"Yes mom!" I shouted sarcastically while putting my shoes on and than sprinting out to the nearest bus stop, which wasn't that far away.

It didn't take long for the bus to come and pick me up and it didn't take long to get to the shopping mall that John told me to meet him at. I walked inside and headed straight to the arcade, a place where I knew he'd be in. I walked through the place, shuffling my way around kids and teenagers Until I caught sight of John playing a game and his friend, Tim.

"John!" I called over, causing the kid to look over towards me.

"Kayden!" He wrapped his arms around my waist, hugging me, and I wrapped my own arms around his shoulders.

"Hey, Kiddo, how have you been?"

"Good, though my foster parents are real dicks." John pulled away. "Come on, lets go play something."

I chuckled and nodded. "Alright."

"I'm going to go grab some more coins." Tim stated as he got to us. "Nice to see you again, Kayden."

"Likewise, Tim." I smiled before letting John to drag me to a game called 'After Burner'. He slipped into the seat, put some coins in and I watched him play. His eyes hardened with concentration as he jolted and pressed the correct controls. This went on for a few minutes until Tim hurried to us, eyes wide, alarmed.

"John."

"Not now, not now." John tried to brush Tim off as he continued to play.

"Hey, there's this cop scoping for you, check it out."

That caught both of John's and my attention. I glanced over and saw the said cop asking a kid in glasses, who pointed towards where we are.

"Split man, just go."

John slipped out of the game and did what Tim told him and I followed after. I glanced behind us when we made it to a door and saw that the cop was power walking towards us.

We went through the door and ran down corridor after corridor. We turned down a corridor and ran through a set of double doors, ignoring the guy that was already there, calling us, telling us that we couldn't be in here. We turned right before stopping in our tracks.

A big, bulky yet handsome man was walking towards us with a box full of roses. He was fully decked out with black leather and wore dark sunglasses that hid his eyes. I watched as he opened the box, pulling out what looked like a shotgun and cocked it, all the while still walking towards us.

We ran back the way we came and John tried one door but it wouldn't budge. He went to try another but stopped and we both turned, seeing the man standing there with his gun. I turned but froze when I saw the cop turning the corner, taking his pistol out from his holster. I turned back to the bigger man and something rather strange happened.

"Get down." the man ordered with a thick Austrian accent. I quickly pushed John down and covered his body with mine just as a gunshot sounded.

I turned to look at the cop and, to my horror, the cop wasn't injured- not in the human sense. Instead, it seemed like a blooming of silver where the shell had hit. The cop- thing- straightened up and aimed. I stood, dragging John up with me and just as I was about to run, the other guy grabbed us and turned around, just as the thing started to unload his clip into the guys back which didn't seem to phase him. Once the thing stopped, the guy hit the door that John previously tried to open, busting the lock and pushing John and I inside.

We heard gunshots right after and once it stopped again, we peered out and saw the guy standing over the thing, reloading his gun. The thing got up and grabbed the gun and the two started to throw each other into the walls until they finally went through one.

I quickly grabbed John and bolted away, not wanting to see what the aftermath of this fight would be.
