It was night and we were still driving through roads and streets. John was up in front while I sat in back, my arms wrapped around John, pushing him back into the terminator's torso. I did this out of habit and tried not to think of being pressed against the machine's back.
"So, about the other guy," John spoke up, trying to keep his voice above the wind and the sound of the bike's engine. "He's a terminator like you?"
"Not like me. It's a T-1000, advance prototype, mimetic poly-alloy." the terminator answered.
"What the hell does that mean?" I asked him, frowning.
"Liquid metal." was his simple answer and I nodded. Well, that answers my question about the bullets hitting this T-1000. "You are both targeted for termination, the T-1000 will not stop until it completes the mission."
"Just great." I sighed. "Where are we going?"
"We are leaving the city immediately and avoid authorities."
"Wait, can't we drop by my house? I need to pick up some things." John stated, hope in his tone.
"Negative. The T-1000 will defiantly try to require you there."
"You sure?"
"I would."
It went silent for some time after the brief conversation, John and I didn't know what else to say or ask in the slightest. I didn't know how long we had been driving until we pulled into a parking lot, near a payphone. John wasted no time in jumping off and walking to it, trying to fish any quarters out of his pockets.
"Tod and Jenelle are dicks, but I gotta warn them." He stepped inside and continued to search while the terminator and I got off of the bike and followed him. It was at this time that I realized that short next to him, only coming up to his chin.
"Shit. You gotta quarter?" John asked me and I shook my head. John turned towards the terminator but before he could ask, the terminator wordlessly smashed the glass with his fist before grabbing a quarter and handing it to John.
"That works." I piped up as John pushed the quarter into the slot, dialed and held the receiver to his ear.
"Jenelle, it's me." John spoke after a moment. I heard a muffled response on the other end that I couldn't make out before he began to speak again."Yeah, is everything alright? Are you guys okay?"
He went silent for a moment. "Yeah, I'm fine."
After listening, he put a hand over the mouth piece and turned towards our protector. "Something's wrong, she's never this nice."
I frowned. I had met his foster parents before and I knew that they weren't this nice to John from the sounds of it.
"The dog's really barking. Could he already be there?"
The terminator grabbed the phone and in a perfect imitation of John's voice, began to speak. "I'm right here, I'm fine."
He paused, covering the mouth piece and looked at John. "What's the dog's name?"
"Max."
The terminator brought the phone back up and uncovered the mouthpiece. "Hey, Jenelle, what's wrong with wolfy? I can hear him barking. Is he okay?"
After listening, the terminator hung up. "Your foster parents are dead."
I watched as the terminator walked off before looking down at John. "Scoot over, little man. I gotta call my roommate."
John nodded and followed after the other. I reached down, picked up a quarter, pushed it in and dialed before holding the receiver up to my ear, waiting.
"If it's you Kayden, I'm going to kick your ass for being out so late without calling me earlier." was the first thing Derek said.
"Yeah, sorry about that." I sighed. "Derek, you need to get out of there and go somewhere."
"What?"
"You need to go someplace that no one can find or expect you to be."
"Kayden, what are-"
"Just trust me, alright? please. There's someone after John and I and they already killed his foster parents. We're with someone, so don't worry."
"Damn. Alright, I'll head over to a motel now." He promised.
"I'll talk to you later."
"Stay safe, Connor."
With that, Derek hanged up and I put the phone back with a sigh before I turned around and walked out of the booth.
