"I can't believe her," I huffed." Always doing everything alone. I could help, but no."
"Sir Wolf, please. I'm sure Lady Nephinae had her reasons," Vamiryo said." She doesn't want her child in this fight."
I stopped pacing and spun to face him," excuse me?"
Anastasia put a hand on the Emperors' arm," papa, Sir Wolf only looks like a child because of a contract," she said quietly." He's actually much older than he looks."
Vamiryo's eyes went wide," oh! My apologies. I had no idea. I just assumed..."
"It's fine," I sighed, sitting down.
After meeting up with Nephinae, Vamiryo had taken Asmirius, Anastasia, and me to a safe room on the lower floor of the palace. The walls were reinforced with several layers of multi-elemental barriers, and the entrance was hidden by magic as well. The room was small; there was one dust covered three person couch and a rickety table with four chairs. Other than that the room was bare.
"I'm sure you're still worried about her, though," Vamiryo said.
Anastasia nodded," we all are, but we should do what she said and stay here. Just calm down, ok?"
"How can I?" I exclaimed, causing the others to jump." The last time I let her go off on her own she nearly died and that was against one person."
"I understand your worry, but—"
"It doesn't matter anyway," I sighed." I couldn't go anyway. It's impossible to go against an alphas orders. There's nothing I can do."
"Sir Wolf, Lady Nephinae told you to make sure the three of us were safe," Asmirius began." Do you understand what I mean?"
"She never said I had to be with you," I finished, my eyes going wide.
The emperor nodded.
"Go," Asmirius said, putting a hand on the sword at his hip." We can handle ourselves from here."
I sighed despite the smile on my face," Don't do anything stupid, ok?"
"Same goes for you, now get going."
I nodded and slipped out of the room. Once in the hall, I quickly made my way up to the main floor. After about ten or so minutes I arrived outside the ballroom. My eyes went wide as a pained scream sounded from inside. Nephinae.
"Nephi!" I pried open the heavy door and frantically scanned the room for the blonde.
On the far side of the room, a white haired man stood over the body of a beastman girl with black and white hair. Blood oozed from a large stab wound in her back.
The man slowly turned around and my eyes went wide when I saw his scarred face.
"Akamatsu!"
"Kuroki, is that you? I hardly recognized you in that pathetic form," Akamatsu sneered." How have you been, my younger brother?"
"Don't call me by that name!" I hissed." You stopped being my brother when you killed my mother."
"You're still upset about that, huh? Well, no matter. It makes no difference whether you're here or not. The girl will be dead soon enough," Akamatsu chuckled." Besides, I would worry more about yourself," he growled, charging at me with his flaming nodachi.
I ducked away from the short one and blocked the longer one with my hidden wrist blades.
"You've grown soft, brother," Akamatsu hissed." Though I can see why you picked her; she does resemble her."
